hey guys, came here for some advice. i finally got to the point where i can now afford one of my dream cars. 996/997 gt2 or a scuderia. now the hardest part is choosing which one I'm looking for some advice especially from people who have had some experience with both i am really looking for some unbiased opinion and what not, and yes i know I'm on a porsche forum but lets face it. ferrari guys... well are... ferrari guys lol.

I'm still tossing the idea around a 996/997 turbo i do love the looks of both so thats not a factor. the only reason why I'm considering the 996 is bc i do feel they will go up in value. however if i was to pull the trigger on a gt2 it'd most likely be the 997.

so with that being said. 997gt2 or the scuderia. I'm so torn on which one. the scudyrias weren't even an option however they came down in price a lot and now are an affordable car. my one draw back to the scuderia is the cost to fix when it breaks. thats really it.

As long as you have an independent mechanic, the cost of the Ferrari should not be that bad. My friend has had a Ferrari 550 and a 430 and the cost of ownership for him has been reasonable given the level of car you are talking about. On the Ferrari you should probably do headers as those are a known failure point. Taillights need to be secured in with newer brackets, mirrors can get loose, but all of that is pretty basic stuff. Also make sure the clutch readout is good.

The GT2 is an absolutely amazing car too, will be quicker, probably cost less in maintenance over the long run too.

I would say this, if you want ultimate speed, turbo feel, and a manual, get the GT2. If you want a car that has a race car interior, amazing sound, an automatic transmission that has a lot of feel, then go for the Scud. No wrong answer. I have only had experience around the 430, not the GT2, as disclosure in that I have not owned either so I cannot give you a full assessment, I am sure someone has owned both though.

 

Love the Ferrari but the Scuderia's price point is a bit higher than the Porsche's.

 

If you want a manual trans go gt3. If you want auto go scud. They are all awesome and their is no answer. I have a highly modded gt3 and not selling it. Next car to add to stable is a scud or 675lt

 

I guess the obvious question is why no consideration for 997.2 RS? I have interest in 430 Scuds but would probably climb to the 458. Not certain 996 GT3's are holding value any better than 997's and they are much better inside the car (interior wise) IMO. Personally know how awesome GT2's are but turbos aren't my thing. Drive them all!

 

Totally different driving experience. Do you mind turbo lag, lack of sound? Do you want high revving / naturally aspirated screamer?

 

From your choices, I'd recommend 997.1 GT2. I bought mine nearly a year ago and feel that they are a pretty special car.

I don't have anything negative to say about 430 Scuderia and have driven one briefly, but I just love and prefer Porsche overall. The 997.1 GT2 is a car you will likely never tire of, and is just exceptional in so many ways.

 

Do understand this is forum predisposed towards the GT2.

I've had substantial seat time in both the GT2 and Scud. Esp. so in the 997 GT2. They're very different cars.

If you're a diehard Porsche fan, GT2 means something. It really is a very accomplished car. Chassis same if not better than the contemporary RS in every way. Massive street cred when you're among like-minded car guys.

The Scud has that extra curbside appeal. The NA V8 and the single-clutch shifters are icons of that genre. Unless you're a trackrat or Porsche diehard, I think that's the car that'll give you more smiles per weekend.

So you can gauge my biases, I haven't, and probably won't be tempted to bother with Ferraris. But if I must, the Scud and 360CS are the two that come to mind. Maybe the Monza SP1 too hahaha.

CRex with actual seat time is the person to trust and I'm tempted to agree with him, even though I'm clearly a Porsche guy (unless someone has a free Lamborghini Countach that they want to give me). I've been in one F430, but never driven one.

Curb Appeal - As someone who has a "rare" 2009 version of the rare 997.1 GT2, I can tell you that car nerds will eat up a GT2. Normal people will respond more to the Scud. It's a Ferrari!
Sound - Engine sound is waaaaay better in the Scud but if you like turbo whine from inside the car, the GT2.
Shifting - If you like three pedals, GT2.
Track times - From what I've seen online the GT2 beats the Scud on everything from the Nurburgring to the Top Gear track (except Motegi for some reason).
Big ridiculous wings - GT2 obviously.
Rarity - Someone else here will know better, but since everything on the internet is true, it seems the GT2 is rarer in total production numbers at 1242 vs 7K or so? Rumors.....but for the 2009 GT2 with the upgraded interior, 20 in the US and 7 in Canada.

I've done 100k km's in my 6GT2; you'll never tire of a GT2...the key is, you need to DRIVE them regularly, think anyone who sells theirs's just hasn't spent the seat time.
They're FAST when you want to play, and competent when you just want to cruise and use daily.
Car people drool, non-car people barely notice it even when you're out 'enjoying it' = winning

 

Both cars are solid, but something to consider is the community. IMO, it just doesn't get any better than the Porsche community. So many great people from all walks of life.
