Default Wacky Oil Levels on GT3 997.1

When my oil is hot and car is on level ground and I activate the oil level measurement on my GT3 997.1 I notice my counter always starts at 6 seconds. What is the proper amount of time to check oil level once idling on level ground??
My oil level seems to differ from one time to the next. Oil pressure is always at 5 bars above 2500 RPM's.

Thanks

Mark

As far as I remember, it's normal. And when I'm driving and come to a red light, stop and immediately check the oil level, it takes a bit longer, maybe 9 seconds(?)
I'm pretty sure with warmed up engine it's about 5-6 secs for it to indicate the level.
Also, I've observed that if the car has the nose or rear up on the driveway for instance, level indicated is still normal. But if you pull over on the side of the road and the car is not leveled left/right, you can get a false high level indication-

Thanks! I usually get 6 seconds. If I let it idle for 2-3 minutes it sometimes measures a bar or two bars lower. This car is new to me so I don't want to run low oil level. Maybe a bad sensor, but I have heard many complaints on the repeatability of sensor. The oil sensor is hard to reach without pulling the engine, but I am told it can be done.

Does anyone else have some input on this? Much appreciated. Thanks!

just let it get to ~200 oil and have it be around mid on the gauge hot. level ground.
dont over think :-)

Once car is FULLY warmed up oil should be at 5 bar ~3k RPM. Mine runs about 1 bar at idle hot,

When you do an oil change with filter, it's 9.5 quarts. Accurate oil level reading is only achieved once oil temps are around 200 degrees
With a cold engine you get the "engine not warmed up" message, but before the oil temp is up you may get a low reading. So the only accurate reading is with hot oil, about 200 degrees. 9.5 quarts after change ensures you have nothing to worry about.
If you leave the car draining overnight or something, you might need a bit more than 9.5 its, but not much-
Double checked last night-it takes 6 secs to get a reading, if you do it immediately after stopping, like at a red light, 9-10 secs for a reading-

Thanks for all the advice. I believe I may have a faulty oil level sensor. Level reading is too inconsistent.

During the past 10 years, there have been posts similar to yours. You need to consider your dry sump engine with an external oil tank (2 liters+). The sensor cannot register consistently accurate changes in oil level unless all components have had time to heat soak fully. IMO
After driving my GT3 over 50K miles, the only time I get consistent readings is after a drive, not before.
Replacement is not always definitive, or easy. If you decide to do so, you could try the following:

Thanks for the link! Great post, I am not rushing into this since I understand it may not be the "fix" due to dry sump measurement. I know oil can really expand and change volume with temperature. Cramped space projects also can result in collateral damage which is another big concern. Having said all this, I may very well need a new level sensor.
