Default Toyo R888R best ratio sizes

Hi,

what would be the best rear tire size to use on the CCW 9"/12" 18" rims? front obviously seems like the 255 would be the default fit, but, which one put on the rear 12"? 315 or 335?

Thx, Paul.

Ditto. R888 don't work as well on these cars in comparison to the nt01 IMO

it is not about r888. it is new r888r. it is told to have softer compound than r888 and a better grip than nt01, but, i did not fit them yet, so, dunno how 315 sits on the 12" rim compared to 335.

again, all i know about them is from reviews, so, who knows. would be nice to hear from anybody who actually used them.

I've used R888R but in 19" sizes. To me the grip feels comparable to the NT01 but neither is close to a tire like the R7. However, the useful track life of the R888R is limited by heat cycles whereas you can run the NT01 down to the cords.

hi John, great to see you are still around. i did not do any track events now for 3 years - got no time at all, so hope to get back to it may be mid-season, with SCDA, if time finally permits.
so, does R888R have same issue as old R888 where it gets to some slippery sub-compound layer as it gets closer to cords? overall you say NT01 are still the tire of choice, as before? if so, i will get them then. as i do not trailer, so i still need streetable r-comps.

I never used the old R888, only the R888R. The R888R loses grip long before it gets worn down to the cords, presumably because of heat cycles. For a streetable track tire, people these days like the Michelin Sport Cup 2, NT01, or RE71R. I would consider the NT01 a marginal street tire because it is horribly noisy and doesn't deal well with standing water.

I have a dedicated track car (Cayman) now so I don't worry about street driving. I still keep the GT3 for the street, although it's really not the best street car because of all the track mods I did.

888r isn't bad, but i prefer the nt01. try both, see what you like.
