997 gt3 center muffler failure
#2
Usually this happens if you have the side muffler deletes and track the car.
I know the titanium RS one is prone to this.
Time to get a center bypass. Unless you want to overpay for an OEM muffler or wait till one goes on sale on the forums.

I think there's a lot of variables that can attribute to cracking, such as the rpm range frequently being subjected to, accumulated time riding the rev limiter, how tight or loose the muffler straps are(the straps can be over tightened pinching the muffler body too much or can be loose enough to only vibrate during higher revs), the ECU tune, rapid temperature change from sitting near freezing sitting in the paddock to full track temp, certain tracks have certain engine loading characteristics, condition of the cats(if any), fuel octane that causes anti-knock ignition timing retard that results in higher exhaust temp, corrosion, and...
I track my GT3 with side delete pipes, I expect my muffler to crack at some point in time so I purchased a spare one. But haven't needed to use the spare one with 40-some track days on first muffler(OEM, not reinforced) with no crack, that was until my car got rear-ended.
Some of my customers have way more than 40 track days with no cracking on OEM their mufflers while other have cracked by luck of the draw or certain variables.
I also think that the .2 steel muffler(which is same part # for 991GT3) is more durable. .2 muffler is direct bolt-on for .1 cars.
Reinforcing is a good measure to take.
Here's a pic of my muffler after being rear ended at 30+mph. Crushed but still not crack.

Tom nails it. A LOT of factors at play. The TI ones seem to all crack. The steel ones, not so much. I've run the 997.1 cup headers (100 cell cats), with side bypass into the center muffler for near 5 years. I have, well, a bit of track time on the car. Muffler has no cracks or evidence of cracks. But our tracks here are a little shorter, a little slower than some of the courses out east. I know the Sebring guys were cracking everything...

Photo's here of my aftermarket Ti F360 exhaust.
Agency Power I think.
Sure looked pretty with all the yellows / purples where the original weld zones were.
One track day and.............................
Fortunately a friend welds Ti and I just had to buy the rod.
Also welded in some gussets and improved the mounting on the headers.

I have a Fabspeed Mini Maxflo exhaust I was going to post up for sale. It is beat up a bit, but might work for you if you need something right away for dirt cheap.
It is detailed at the link below, but with black tips...

No, it will fail again... Ti doesn't handle vibration well and will fail again...
It's one of the reasons we made our 321SS Lifetime Center mufflers...
