Default New to me GT3

Introducing my new-to-me 2011 997.2 GT3. Meteor Gray with a nice driver's spec. Adaptive sports seats, nose lift, dynamic cornering lights, dynamic engine mounts, self-dimming mirrors, center lock wheels. Had good, Porsche -loving owners and regular dealer service.

My friend Dave (@9six4) and I flew to inspect it and buy it. Spent three days driving the canyons, desert and ridges of Southern California and Nevada, then shipped the car back to NY.

Tomorrow the work begins. We plan to replace the outmoded 2011 aftermarket head unit. Remove the not-so-great built-in radar, Add a refurbished DSC unit for the PASM suspension, and most importantly, fix the factory nose lift which is experiencing the standard malfunction. The driver's seatbelt retractor is shot, so some new seatbelts (in red?) are on the horizon. And let's not forget some new Pirelli Sottozero II snow tires on 18" OZ Racing wheels! Can you say winter fun?

Thought I'd post this because this section has gotten kind of sleepy.

Congrats!

Now you know why we deal with all the BS in California. The weather, driving and mexican food. Not in that order.

Awesome. Great car - great plans. Just did the headunit in mine. Now I need a drivers side belt retractor as well. Let us know about the installs!

Is that the car from Ventura with the damaged nose lift (stuck in the upright position)?

when I swapped my seat belts to yellow, the entire unit was replaced.

Thus I have 2 seat belt units (RHD car though)

swap was done in Q1, 2013 when the car had done 7k miles

So to answer questions;

Yes it’s the Ventura car with the standard nose lift malfunction. It isn’t stuck up. It goes up but only comes down at speed. Won’t come down by the switch. It’s just a pressure switch, so we’ll be going in, figuring out which unit is in there, then ordering the switch. Should be an involved, but easy fix.

Installed a Pioneer Avic-8400NEX today. Wireless CarPlay, built-in nav (for nav when we’re out of cell areas), generally all you’d want.

Half the day was spent uninstalling the old Kenwood unit and the old escort radar and laser unit. Some of the old components are still in there, didn’t have time to remove the number, etc.

Installed the GPS antenna on a cai-store.com hidden antenna mount. Super slick install. The new unit went in pretty easily. Six hours or so start to finish. Here are a few pics.

The beginning of figuring out the spaghetti

A pillar trim came off to remove the original dash mounted gps antenna and the microphone.

This was the surprise behind the fuse box kick panel

It’s good to have friends with skills

Tap a fuse switched power for the unit

It’s aliiiive!

Wired or wireless CarPlay!

CD and SD slots. USB cable in the glovebox
