997 gt3 4.0 rear suspension ?
Hello,
Does anyone have pictures they can provide of a 4.0 rear oem suspension setup? Particularly looking at the configuration of the springs. Based on my research the 2010 GT3 and 2011 GT3 RS 3.8 use the same rear setup however the GT2 RS uses a different setup (which i have purchased), looking to see (visually) what the 4.0 uses.

All the marketing I've read says the 4.0 springs are stiffer than the 3.8. Not an owner of either. Just an internet guy.

996.2/7.1 GT3/rs AND GT2 (same concept and design),
Have the abomination in picture 1.
997.2 's GT3's (RS as well)
Have the simple spring in picture 2.
997 GT2RS
Have spring in picture 3.
997 GT3 4.0
?
For one, i'm trying to map of what Porsche learned and how they developed the GT3/2 rear suspension over time. Second, i'm trying to find away to stiffen the rear end of my car keeping "oem" components. Using the "latest" feasible to install on a 7.1 (with DSC) based on Porsche's R&D.

Your pictures are correct, but the bottom of the rear shock on the first gen 997.1 GT3's is forked (female clevis) like the 997.2, not like the round socket version shown in the first pic. The progressive spring and the blue spacer are spot on, though.

Maybe dumb question but have you checked PET or maybe even a dealer can look up the part numbers? I haven't seen a PET that references the 4.0 though.
Logically the 4.0 would need stiffer springs to accommodate for the additional d/f from the increased rake on the rear wing and the canards/flicks/dive planes on the front.

Yes, concept is same. Slight variance. I should post actual pictures for 997.1. I'll take some of my car.
I have the part numbers via PET. I want to visually see what they look like, hence requesting pictures. I agree should be different -as much more down-force.
Maybe dumb question but have you checked PET or maybe even a dealer can look up the part numbers? I haven't seen a PET that references the 4.0 though.

OEM Main Spring $650 / each
OEM Helper springs = $440 / each
OEM Helper springs hardware = $45 / each
I have purchased the Main spring and it's on it's way to Tom at TPC - we will find out actual rate once he test. This is a tinkering project more then anything. Or as SavvyBoy would say, "bins" part project.
Based on the information i have gathered the 991 GT2 RS has 100/nm for front axle springs and 140 n/m springs for the axle, at the rear.

Long term, yes i do. First want to see
1) Find out Main Spring rate at the rear.
2) If possible to install w/ 997.1 shock and hat. (basic retro fit)
3 ) How much DSC module can assist w/ oem shock + gt2rs rear springs.
4 ) Do some track days.
Once confirm. Everything is well and significant upgrade over stock.
1) TPC Rear Top Hat
2) GT2 RS OEM dampers, on all 4 corners : pending
a) DSC module tuning possible ?
3 ) What is the front spring rate for GT2 RS ? (I installed Swift Z60-203-060 springs about a week ago )
Net = OE Suspension.
Yes more costly then Ohlins but no one said tinkering is cheap.
That all said - the DSC module is exceptional and is the only reason why i'm tinkering with this. Tom sent me a revised file when i installed my stiffer front springs and the car rides better then OEM PASM, better then OEM springs + DSC module.
Rear feels wonky hence....down this path.

The 4.0 drives hands down leaps better then .1,RS and .2,RS and .2 GT2
Looking at the picture above i'm assuming the GT2RS drives equally as great. When i say drives, I'm referring to Damping: Bump /rebound/spring rate combo.
Clearly the 2rs and 4.0 had a massive evolution from the .1 and .2 models.
Once Tom test the Gt2rs spring rate i'm probably going to purchase a 4.0 spring find out the spring rate.

I agree with the comments here. My racing car buddy (many of you know his identity) said the GT3 RS 4.0 is the first 997 GT he'd driven that handled properly out of the box. To my knowledge he had not driven a GT2 RS. It had to do with a change to the rear suspension and if my memory wasn't failing I'd comment in specifics here. I guess in short, replicating the RS 4.0 rear or going Porsche Motorsports is the way to get it right. Best JBO
