Default 997 lower rear shock mount

Does anyone make spherical bearing insert for the rear shock lower mount? (in the knuckle). Its the circled area in the picture. Cup cars and 996's have a more conventional setup where the bearing/bushing is in the end of the shock

I don't know if he ever did it but Tom at TPC discussed this as a reco by another RL user, manuxc.

Here's his original thought from ~2 years ago:

Here's the reco by manuxc:

Scroll through and there's a downloadable .rar file with the schematics for it.
He just recently replaced his rear hubs and a pic of those on the thread shows a rubber mount so doesn't look like he swapped them over or ever did the mod maybe.

I swear I'm not a stalker. I just know this particular thread very well as it's one of few I've followed over the years.

The gt2rs and 4.0gt3rs hubs have a spherical bushing there. Probably much easier to buy those hubs and swap them on. I dont think you can buy the bushing separately from porsche either.

Thanks guys, that is exactly what I am looking for. The parts diagram image does not match it, but the price is almost reasonable, around 500 each.

One thing not sure about is if geometry is same on the 40 parts (i think it is)... that said 500 each is "cheap" the labor to pull, swap a bushing, but back... plus bushing cost... you'll be in over 500. That said, I'd be surprised if you felt a difference..

Geometry is same. I put them on my car and made no difference over the original uprights with aging(not broken) rubber bushings. I reset the rear ride height by ~2.0mm to make up for the sag of the rubber just to be obsessive. Agree cost is reasonable. Disadvantage is no replacement bearing from Porsche if a bearing develops play after banging over big bumps over time. FWIW, replacing the rubber top mounts made a difference in the feel of the car to me.

Good to know Tom. I already have the spherical top mounts in the rear, am better than 50% to the goal! Trying to make our turbo handle more GT like, so looking at all of the compliance points. SCCA rules won't allow spherical bushings in the arms in my class, but shock mounts are unrestricted.

I've looked in this. In order to make a spherical bearing the upright itself needs to be bored and the a groove machined for a lock ring. Or the bore needs to be threaded to secure a spherical bearing. For stiffer rubber I suggest contacting Powerflex Bushing, this sort of thing is right up their alley.

Is there enough room to press the old bushing out and new in without removing the hub from the car?
