Comparison of 997.2 GT3 with 991.2 GT3 anyone?
Anyone taken delivery of a 991.2 GT3 manual that owned, or still owns a 997.2 GT3? I have heard about the very different clutch feel on the new car but I have not seen much else in terms of comparison. Rear wheel steering, higher revving engine, obviously more power make it a lot different, what about steering feel? I had a 997.2 GT3 for five years, tracked it, loved it, trouble free, someone really wanted it so sold it. Really curious about how different a feel there is between the two cars. 7/8 years between the two models is a lot, I am assuming that they are worlds apart. Can't wait for mine.... (apologies if this has been thoroughly addressed elsewhere, could not find too much doing a search) Posted this query in the 991 GT3 forum as well....

Nice question. Looking forward to comments on this.
I'm told I'm next up for an allocation. Lots of trepidation on letting the 997.2 go.

991 rev's faster, lighter clutch, doesn't push as much as 997 due to RWS. much easier to drive fast and confidence inspiring.
the shifter action is much smoother than 997.
anything specific you want to know more?

steering is more isolated than 997. but if you use light finger pressure, the feel is there.
you will not FEEL RWS, you will just go "did i must make that turn?"

Mooty surely knows what the deal is. But I kinda like having the extra $80k+ in my pocket by keeping the old tech, slower Mezger in the garage. More $ for track days. Or Cup Cars. Hah.

991 and 981 are AMAZINGLY easy to drive: in traffic, at the limit on track, in all ways easier. I love the new tech. It is MIND BLOWING when you see how capable the new products are that Porsche is producing. They don't hold my attention over the long haul but as the experience is still new, u can't believe what the car allows you to do.
If you are a borderline masochist, you will return to the 997 after enough time with 991. It is so much easier to master that it takes away the thrill of "getting it right" on an unruly beast like a 997.
Summary for me: all new Porsche products completely blow my mind for increased ease of performance across all categories. After a few months, I tend to get bored of them and go back to the imperfect, difficult beast.
As an aside: If I had time to be a dedicated track rat, 991/992/993 pdk product over 997 every day of the week. Allows a bad driver like me to enjoy the experience more; the 997 is a more exhausting experience around a track. 991 is just pure fun.

Not sure I entirely agree with that. The 9X1 cars are much easier to go quickly in but that's not the same as being easy to drive on the limit. IMO there's a lot going on with the background electronics, especially on the gt3 with rws, e-diff and ptv. the 997s are more transparent that the car is much less likely to do something that the electronics tell it to that you aren't expecting.

the previous owner of my GT3 has a 991.2 GT3 with manual. Sharkwerks posted two of his videos on here with the car on track and with their exhaust.
he seems to be liking the 991.2 quite a bit, but also said that if he could do it again, he would have kept the 997.2 GT3 and added the 991.2 GT3. definitely something about the 997.2 that keeps people yearning for them.
