u are very much on the money
from 75 somewhat legal street speed (on fwy) take offramp, a tight one and drop from 5th to 2nd gear at the last minute. the sound of IT blipping down the gears. is something else
from 75 somewhat legal street speed (on fwy) take offramp, a tight one and drop from 5th to 2nd gear at the last minute., the feeling of you heel toeing to 2nd gear successfully is undescribable, of your faiilure is likely sliding off the ramp and havoc
first gear step on throttle and pull the paddle, the expression "trigger happy" had no meaning to me until pdk s
do the same in 7, 2nd gear you get big rpm drop b/c the notch, 3rd gear is even worse.. but if you get it right, it's like. hitting G spot on first try, you donrt have to mess around over and over.
tight rad turn. 991 just turns (RWS), 7 you fiddle with steering and throttle to get the push out.
over bumpy roads while turning (canyon drives), 991 is smooth, you concentrate on the turns.
7 , well you also concentrate on the turns but first you concentrate on staying on pavement. its bounces left and right
some say one is satisfying
other say it's annoying
but really they are just different.
and i dont know which i would choose if i had to.

It really is the parallel to analog vs. digital.
I love the challenge. Same reason the old cars are so much fun.
Get in, fits like a glove, feels perfect size, all the controls just right for driving in anger. The noise, the clatter, the aggressive yet delicate way you have to drive the car at pace...
I also like the new, just haven't found the new that I want to keep (yet). See sig.
And Mooty, I know which one you'd keep if you only could keep one :-)

REALLY want to try a 991.2 manual. However, having just taken the 7.2RS for a good blast this weekend I just can't see it being as involving. If I can get hold of a 991.2 I'll try and run both until a decision has been made.

So what you guys are saying is the 7 RS is like a medium rare ribeye and the .1 is a medium well ribeye. Both are good but one is more raw then the other. haha
I swapped cars, drove a 991.1 GT3 and was hooked. I would like to drive a 997.1/.2 GT3 or GT3 RS to see the difference.

I would only add that 997 “rs” cars get thrown into the same bucket but maybe shouldn’t. While similar they are different too. I have found the .2 rs suspensión to be a lot more compliant, a lot gripper and the shorter gearing to be quite welcome.

Depends whether you want a car that feels special and intense the whole time or one that's more normal and relaxing unless you're really on it. I prefer the full experience the whole time. The Mezger also has a more varied, musical engine note. For me all versions of 997 RS suspension offer the perfect balance of compliance and involvement with the road surface. The chassis and steering of the later cars isolates more.

With the prices of both 997 RS and 991.2 Gt3 almost thesame, I would say buy a 997 RS. There is nothing a 991 Gt3 can do that an RS cant do, Besides that, you know more or less the prices has stabilized on the RS. And its a much more special car IMO(RS) even if its older.

My RS has been with me almost 2 years and I would say, this is the longest Ive owned a porsche. The only other porsche Ive owned this long is my 997 TT MT but I upgraded to 3 different TT MT in 2 years so It cannot be the longest.
An RS just by its presence, tells you its a much special car than my 991 GT3. And being it as a PDK, did not put that much involvement to me.
A 991 GT3 is a very nice porsche and it will surely have its own following.

I've been happy to own my 997.2 RS for over 4 years now, and wouldn't trade it for anything. I've watched many friends sell their 997.1 and 997.2 GT3 and RS cars for 991 GT3 variants and the only happy ones are the ones who bought the 991.1 RS, with one notable exception. They just don't make them like they used to, and the older I get the more I appreciate the older 911 experience. I feel the 997.2 RS is the ideal blend of all the classic attributes with enough modern features to make me a very happy camper. Extremely rare, extremely fun, and just a car for the ages! It's the last car in my meager collection I'd sell.

Burning Brakes
One day, I drive my '88 G50 Carrera, another day, I drive my '96 C4S, and finally, on another day, I drive my '11RS. Each time I drive one of these, I say to myself that if there is only one to keep, this is it! What a headache! Fortunately, I can keep all three as not impressed with the later offerings!

An air-cooled RS would be fun for its more pronounced 911 traits but my 6'3" fits much more comfortably in a water cooled car and after getting used to modern cars the skinny A-pillars of the air-cooled cars look like they offer as much rollover protection as a '50s car. I also remember that although my 911SC was brilliant and came out on top of test drive comparisons each time I considered changing to an icon from another marque, when I changed to a 996 GT3 I was transported to a new level of happiness. The 997 is something else again. Is any motor as stirring as the Mezger? (I haven't driven a CGT or Macca F1)

I just had the privilege of driving a 991.1 GT3 and was floored by the PDK downshifting in auto. Crazy good.
But I knew I would prefer my 997.1RS. Couldn't wait to go home and take it out. It is more nimble and involving.
Feels more like putting on an old pair of jeans that just fit right.
Also is as fast as needed on the street.

The 4.0 mezger can't even begin to be compared to the CGT's v10 imo. Not even close. mind you if you had to buy a new engine, the price differential between the 2 pretty much explains why as well so it's hardly a like for like comparison. For what it is, the 4.0 has a superb engine and even now comparing the SportAuto dyno per Petevb in another thread here, the old unit isn't giving very much at all away to the newest shiniest 991.2gt3 engine.

i've driven the 964 RS- Fun car, feels very solid and old school. Not a lot of power and no differentiation in the body from the regular C2.
I've owned the 993 RS- is a huge step up in performance from the 964- 3.8L, more aero, more compliant suspension- for me best aircooled RS, but I have not driven the 2.7.
The 997.2 RS- instant throttle response, steering is tight, lots of downforce that you can really feel at high speeds. you could drive this car all day and not have to worry about it.
The 997.2 4.0 RS- Best RS ever made. steering is even tighter than the 3.8RS/ more torque/ better sounds/ more aero/ faster acceleration.
Waiting for my 991.2 RS to compare the 997 4.0 RS to.
