your got 4.0, get that CGT
add a 964 variant, could be cheap C2 like mine or exotic RS (not RSA, that's a bad joke), or a 3.8RS engined 964.
maybe a long hood if you are into that.
that's enough.
i had 9 cars at one time. they OWNED me. i am doing car 'stuff' everyday of the week.... UNPLEASANT car stuff.

Haha. I have a 964rs and a '69 911e. Agree, those 4 cars check all the boxes imo.

I have a 981 spyder over in UK for an English countryside backroad convertible. Maybe not a long-term keeper but it has exceeded my expectations.

I had around 10 +/- one time. That was in TX with cheap storage and more time, but it was just way too much. 4 cars gets it done to experience Porsche N/A 911 greatest hits from LH to 997. Then rotate a modern latest/greatest to thrash at track.

Yep, I edited original post to reflect the latest/greatest lease option. We've never met but amazingly similar tastes in cars and sounds like a similar addiction to hifi at one time.

How do you find the 964 RS and 997 4.0 compare? i.e. feel and feedback of controls, handling enjoyment, ride, engine characteristics (other than power), sound, overall thrill, and the usual 'if you could only have one'...

If only 1, 997RS 4.0 over just about anything, price no object, IMO.

964rs has that go cart feel. TONS of steering feedback; like every pebble. Tons of feedback everywhere, almost to the point it's too much.

There really isn't anything to compare. They are separated by almost 20yrs. They are completely different animals. Hence, that's why I have both. But in general, RS4.0 is an angry beast that feels like you need to respect it. Man, that exhaust note is angry; not on CGT level, but inside the cabin probably angrier sounding than CGT.

The 964rs is a feedback machine with just enough punch to feel it in your seat when you throttle it. It is a more subtle appreciation. The 4.0 slaps you in the face visually, aurally, mechanically. 964rs is subtly brilliant but u need to pay attention to detail.

I think ANYONE that got in a 997 4.0, car enthusiast or not, is going to think it's something special. Most people that get in a 964rs will think they are in an old *** Porsche that rides kinda rough and sits kinda low. An enthusiast behind the wheel will feel and hear the differences between it and a 964 c2. But the gap between a 997 CS vs RS4.0 is MUCH bigger than gap between a 964 c2 and RS.

I love them both. The 4.0 is on another level.

Excellent, thank you Jrtaylor9. I had a 911 SC, then jumped to a 996.1 GT3, then the 997 4.0. I've never driven a 964 or 993, hence the curiosity. My memory of the things that struck me when I changed from SC to 6 GT3 is: not having to worry so much about corner entry speed because you could back off without the tail wanting to carry on; even more precision in the controls and body control; and the searing top end of the Mezger. With the change from 6 GT3 to 4.0 it's the same differences all over again. I'm undecided whether the tail of the 4.0 is too locked down, reducing throttle adjustability, or whether it needs to be with that level of performance (it certainly reduces the fear factor) and I need to find the confidence to brake later and harder on turn-in. I've only had the car a year and have just found an insurer (in France) with track day cover so should be able to experiment on track, with greater safety than on the road, next year. Getting back on topic, I can only assume the tail of the 991.2 GT3 would definitely be too locked down to have the same level of involvement on the road as the older cars.

^ the rear of 4.0 is not as lively as 996gt3 for sure, that said, it will move and come around on you too. you can throttle steer 4.0 really easily. it's a car to be driven with respect and with commitment. if you dont commit, the car will run around you. it's like a doberman not a lab.

997.2 RS stick and 991 RS PDK is probably the best combo.

That's partly what makes the 911 so interesting. The first time I drove the 996 GT3 on a high speed track (Phillip Island) I was tentative and the rear felt so loose I thought I needed more rear wing. Eventually I realised I needed to get on the throttle earlier and harder and then it really hunkered down into an amazing, high speed, slight oversteer attitude. 911s up their game to match yours, creating an interactive partnership.

I don't have a 997 RS 4.0 but do have a 997.2 RS 3.8 and a 964 RS alongside my 991.2 GT3PDK. They are all miles apart which what make each one of them special. BUT...If I had to choose only one, it would be the 964 RS, no question. For me, it's more of event to drive than the others. I love the fact that you have to wrestle the car to drive it quickly.

I am considering adding a 996 GT3 RS to my garage....but considering their scarcity, I have not been able to drive one...yet...so would be interested in your comments.
