Monterey 2017 Porsche 4.0 Market

As time goes on and I drive my 3.8 less, I must admit that the 4.0's collector value is appealing.

I'm in London for next 2-3yrs. Home is NY where I have a 3.6rs and 4.0rs. But I got into the 997rs game a long time ago. Point being, as I'm sitting in London, watching this beautiful summer weather and no car to drive, if I come at it from a fresh perspective, at today's prices: if I can only have 1 car in the 997 lineup, it's a 3.8rs. It is the best bang for buck across a lot of car categories, let alone the 997 lineup for pure driving. I'd never dump my 4.0 for a 3.8 back in the states because I have a "forever" mentality back there. To pile weekend miles on a car over next 2-3yrs, 3.8rs is my choice. I know people will say it should be 3.8 Gt3 but I disagree. The RS is just rough around the edges vs the Gt3 that the increased emotion is worth every penny to me. If I was going to be here "forever", I'd buy a black RHD 4.0 and literary own the negative of my LHD white 4.0 in the states.
4.0 is the no-compromises modern n/a mezger experience. 3.8rs is the best all around performer/collector/value choice. It medals in every category. If I buy a modern weekend Porsche while I'm here, 90% sure it's a 3.8rs. Only other consideration might be a 981 spyder just because, oddly enough, this cloudy, cool climate seems like it's begging to go topless.

I've owned both and I think the difference is minuscule. A little more power through the powerband for the 4.0? Otherwise very similar cars, on and off the track. Very few people would be able to tell the difference if you didn't tell them which was which.

intereswting. i have had 9 RS3.8 and 2 4.0. one turn is all it takes to tell you which car i am in.
the power is irrelevant but my had very different handling and all of them were set up by the same chassis engineer.

^ True that. There's a grunt in the 4.0 right off the bat, that the 3.8 just can't mimic.
That said, i think I've gotten mine to be pretty close to the 4.0s I've experienced.
- 4.0 coilovers (that in itself says a lot)
- DSC PASM module
- Monoball LCAs
- 8:32 R&P
- Sharky/EvoMS header
Now I'm pretty sure a well-driven 4.0 can't run away from me at the track
