Default 997.1 GT3 Died - Electrical Issue

Hi,
Driving around town the car died, symptoms are:

- Driving the car died, could not start again
- First error shown: System Fault, Visit Workshop
- No crank, several other errors shown: ABS, TC, PASM (could just be the battery for those)
- We disconnected the battery, tried another battery and no change.
- Car seems to be in emergency mode since fans work with the key ignition on
- No fuse damaged on the box on passenger door.

EDIT: The issue was just a bad contact in a coil, replaced and back to normal.

wonder if there is a way to diagnose the ecu. would suck to put another one in only to have that fry either.

this is interesting since the electronics on the 911 are pretty reliable.

I met one guy who had something similar - turned out Porsche uses some biodegradeable thing on some of their wires, and RATS found it tasty and ate some of his wiring.

Other than that, I'd look on the regular 911 boards - many more cars - so someones more likely to have had the same problem.

^^^^

This problem is really odd and it points to something a little more macro going on. Computer failures on these cars are rare (like you don't hear about it much at all).

One thing you could do is some basic debugging. Take the ECU, unplug it, and the pin outs on the motor harness and see if you have continuity.

I had a wiring diagram somewhere for the car but I can't find it...

Most of those error codes are nothing. To me, this is a dealer level fix unless you have a PIWIS.

Key not stuck, even if I try to start the car 100 times the issue doesn't change.

Dealer called today, they say all the connections to the ECU are as they should, ECU must be replaced.

Finally they replaced the ECU as part of the diagnosis but was not the issue. Fortunately they covered the costs.

Probably there is some hack that can be done to use another ECU and avoid the dealer, but again, this is such an intense job that will require much PIWIS programming that unless you have a PIWIS and know how to use it, you will need the dealer's help.

This may sound ridiculous but if I was faced with a 6K bill just for an ECU, no labor, i might look into a standalone like AEM Infinity or Motec. But again, you need someone who knows how to program and tune those.

ECU covered by the dealer, the original was good.
