HPFP issues?

I have searched through some old threads on this topic, but thought I would ask the Rennlisters to help me separate the wheat from the chaff so to speak. I have an '09 997.2 S with 82,000 miles (bought with 58,000 miles). The car has sat for 10 days, and when I went for a long awaited drive I noticed the car was stumbling and hesitating with any application of the throttle. Drove to the grocery and on the way home a red warning light stating the engine was on reduced power came on. Parked the car and (from what I gleaned reading old posts on the topic) I charged the battery (was at 50%, now 100%). Went for a quick drive and all seems normal again, no warning light. Looking at the records I obtained from the local Porsche dealer I see the following under campaigns: Wb08 HPFP 9x7 scope 2 status 1 stop sales no. I took this to mean the fuel pump has been replaced earlier in the cars life. Any insight on this matter is greatly appreciated before I talk to the dealer in the am.

when mine went, I could drive it up to about 90kmph. It would idle rough and performance of the start was about 50 %. You need a diagnostic , but maybe it may be covered under the 8 yr emissions warranty. It took about 500 km for it to rear its head. had it happen one or two times before it gave up the ghost...... then you are running on the low pressure fuel pump from the tank which can't supply the pressure for normal power. iirc

After I purchased my used 2009 from an out of state Volvo dealer, I had my local p dealer look over the car and I asked them if the pump was replaced. They said it was... And said something like they could tell by looking at it. They said the dealer databases were not linked. This was about 5 years ago. Very odd.

Low battery can wreak havoc on electrical systems including ignition and spark. If you have a code reader pull the codes. Or just drive it and see if it comes back. The updated high-pressure fuel pump part number ends in 06.

I had mine replaced (HPFP) - but the service tech told me it had previously been replaced. They also replaced my battery at the same time - so maybe I didn't need it replaced?

It seems as though a lot of gremlins with these cars can be caused with low voltage.

FWIW, my 2009 C4S which is at 28k had its HPFP replaced at 21k and 24k.

Thank you all for the replies. Just heard back from the dealer and they said it was very low on fuel (18 miles till empty). They filled the tank and ran a diagnostic and there were no codes. I have driven the car before when it has been low on gas and have had no issues, I am not convinced they have diagnosed the problem correctly. Will drive it and see.

I think you found your problem. It's generally unwise to run your fuel so low as that's bad for your fuel pump.

It was a recall on the 997.2 model
