That stinks, in Texas we don't have a mechanics union so anyone would be free to do the work for you, pretty cool system down here.

There is a union for mechanics?

There was a discussion about that on Garage Journal this week. As usual, the thread got locked when the discussion of unions became heated. But yes, there is a union for mechanics.

Illinois seems to be an outlier for the Midwest, there being unions for just about everything in that state.

I am not a big fan of unions, but I know a lot of auto techs and I can say that it is very common for them to be treated poorly by dealerships. It's a career where there is no shortage of bodies and a lot of stores treat them like a commodity. I can understand why there would be unionization in that industry.

The grocery store baggers are in a union in IL.

I saw 5 guys or so picketing at the local Land Rover dealership. Next door is a Ferrari dealership, I didn't see anyone outside....

I'm not opposed to unions nor am I pro-union.

I'm opposed to retired 55 year old 6 figure pensioned Drivers Ed teachers... wtf?

Rant over.

I hope the OP gets that PDK fixes ASAP.

Hope they settle the dispute and get your car done. Waiting is the hardest part!

btw - anyone know of any shops(anywhere!) that work on the internals of the PDK unit?

I hope so too. Talked with one of their service managers and no idea when it will end. For sure not this week ... maybe over the weekend but not likely. Yes the waiting sucks and there is a good car show this weekend.

regarding your question I believe the main issue is not to find someone who is ready/willing to open the PDK - this part would be relatively easy for someone who knows how to deal with automatic gear - but to be able to purchase internal pieces manufactured by ZF. Actually Porsche has an exclusive license on this gearbox so even ZF cannot source parts except the ones listed by Porsche (only external parts as far as I know with the exception of temperature sensor)

Hello again guys

I just wanted to share with you latest action done on my faulty PDK which seems to have fixed my issues (Hydraulic faults through PIWI which happened from time to time and enough to make me crazy). My Porsche specialist where my 997 is maintained did suggest me to perform a PDK recalibration procedure using his PIWI. This is a 7~10 mins procedure which requires btw almost zero knowledge. I first found the car much smoother - especially at low speed or when triggering the reverse the car is not "jumping" anymore but more importantly it seems this procedure fixed all of my issues. I've been trying to reproduce my past issues since 3 weeks now without success, the gearbox runs now perfectly. I cross my fingers this is definitive fix but in any case this is worth trying to launch this procedure in case you have certain PDK issues...just my opinion

Glad to hear that things have been settled with those problems. This has been a real drag ... I lost a giant chunk of summer driving and I'm now still waiting on this strike to end. Fortunately the Cayenne they loaned me has at least had me comfortable getting around. Fingers crossed on the strike!!

Getting kind of pissed that my car has sat there with the parts next to it for almost 2 weeks meanwhile I still have to make a payment on it. The loaner is nice enough but also losing valuable driving season Well over a month since I've been able to get it on the road. Wish they would just bring in some non union temp mechanics. Gotta be some good ones out there that want to make a premium

That's amazing...while the world is laughing about us here in France about our strikes, I realized we are just small kids compared to US 😂

Got my car back, still not fixed. With the wedding and a 3 week honeymoon coming up in 33 days, looks like I won't be getting it fixed until October.

In the meantime my fiance lucks out and get to drive my Pcar around town since it is good for up to 40 minutes.

She showed up to my place this am and I walk out and saw it in front of my door. Hurt having to walk past it!

Will you finally look to replace internal part inside the gearbox? Wondering how this can be done since even ZF cannot source parts under exclusive porsche licensing
