NAV-TV HUR 997 - Carplay on 997.2s
hey all... I am posting this because it took me a lot of research and time before I went for it... there is scarse info scattered all over... so hopefully, this helps you... SO, I had been debating on modernizing my 997 stereo/comms while preserving original look and value - so not chopping away at the PCM3 system and harness... wanted to add a backup camera and use of carplay, as this is my daily driver... so after significant research and time, I decided to get the NAV-TV HUR 997 to be able to use the Bose amp and speakers (so minimal component replacement) and replace the PCM3 unit with a pioneer app radio 4 (there are many other options for head units but my son has this one and it works well)... I did the install myself... takes time but if you have installed stereos before you should be ok... I hit a snag with volume - or lack of - where I had to call NAV-TV and turns out I needed to update firmware, which was really easy and fast, connecting the HUR to a windows machine... Bob at NAV-TV took the time to walk me through and help with other questions I had on the install... these guys are awesome! anyway, here are some pics... if you have questions just let me know... cheers

hey guys.. let me see if I get all the questions answered:
@Platinum997: PCM3 and all its functionality are out of the car. So BT, radio, xm, ... are up to the head unit you get... so u can run all of them on the new head unit. The app radio I got has mic, audio/video inputs, gps antenna, BT, carplay, camera connection, ... so I have all the jazz I like :-) what is left from previous system is the Bose amp and speakers, which the NAV-TV unit leverages. So think of it as take the PCM3 unit out of dash, put in new head unit + NAV-TV, run ne mic with cable to location u want, no damage to original connections so you can always reverse it. Done, more functionality and sounds better than PCM3.
@Chicagospeed996: costs were 399 for app radio, 500 for nav-tv, 25 for Mitra dash kit - yes the cheapest and works like a charm, $26 for camera - Auto-vox cam 6 on amazon, and maybe $20 worth of tape and wire. Plus a few hours of enjoyment in the garage for me. As I mentined before, I did not have to touch anything on Bose amp and speakers. They work seamlessly with NAV-TV.
@Thxrick: camera works impressively well I have to say. I got the cheap $25 Auto-vox to test the system and I thinkg I am going to keep it. I will try to load a video of the camera working. If I change it is because I want wider angle. This one is 170 degrees which is good... but maybe a 180 or 190 degrees let's me see more to the sides when backing up from parking spots. Will probably try that. But I am very pleased with the quality image of this one, day and night. It is really tiny, bolts behind the license plate... so pretty stealth. Will post pic later today.
@Abe: thanks!
@Difung: the original mic is not used anymore. Instead u use the one that the new head unit has. I will also post a pic of that.
All... a few days in and I love it... I even adapted an old Proclip iphone holder I had frmo another car to the 997 and it is perfect.
Cheers.

So you bought both of these :
(1) AppRadio 4 (SPH-DA120)
https://www.pioneerelectronics.com/P...o+4+(SPH-DA120)
PRICE $600
(2) MOST-H.U.R. 997
The MOST-H.U.R. (Head Unit Replacement) allows the user to install a feature-rich aftermarket radio while retaining the factory amplifier and converting audio signal to the factory fiber optic system. This is the fastest and easiest way to upgrade sound quality and features without performing “major surgery” to the vehicle. The HUR module also provides Vehicle Speed Sense (VSS out), 12v Reverse (out), hand/foot brake (out) and Illumination (out) for convenience.
