911 or Carrera?

This. If people don't know a car, then the brand is the first thing they would want to know. Carrera never was, for me, a real name of a model, since if you had to have just one model name, it would most certainly be 911.

Always 911. To be honest, it sounds weird to me when people call it a Porsche Carrera.

I always called my 996 C4S a "Carrera". I tend to call the turbo cars a "Porsche".
The 991 series cars have so much friggin' badging on the back, it's hard for people to know what to call it!

If I say Carrera, 99% of the people I talk to don't know what that is and the other 1% are into cars and think I'm talking about a Carrera GT.
If I say "Porsche", they always ask what kind, so I usually just say 911.
A lady in my neighborhood had a 991 cabrio in Meteor Gray, which is the same color as my 997 cabrio. We encountered each other in the neighborhood and stopped to say hello and introduce ourselves. She kept saying that we had exactly the same car so at one point I said "Yeah, but yours is a 991 and mine is older, it's a 997."
I meant it as a compliment. She had the newer, nicer car. Instead, she just looked at me like I was a special kind of stupid and said "My car is a 911".
I just let it slide. She probably went home and told her husband that she met a dumb guy who didn't even know that he was driving a 911.
