A zillion threads on PDK so no need to rehash if it is 'better', but a few points from someone who has considered PDK in the past.

The PDK experience can vary greatly depending upon the 911 generation, the options, the driver, and what you are asking it to do...
  • Not all PDK generations drive the same, mostly due to software. A 997.2 PDK definitely doesn't have as aggressive software as 991.1 PDK. GT(x) models ramp up the aggressiveness even more.
  • Sport Software (included with Sport Chrono package) makes a big difference. in both 997 and 991 guise, the sport mode really sharpens the shift point and changes the driving experience. If you drive a 997.2 without sport mode, don't write off PDK. You might love it with the sport mode. Fortunately, in the 997 generation you can add sport software. Can't be added on 991 generation.
  • IMHO, freeway traffic, PDK wins. On the track looking for maximum performance, PDK wins. Driving around town, toss up. Back roads / canyon carving, give me a manual any day.

And at the risk of monopolizing your thread, one more thought.

Ironic that you want to get rid of your white gauge faces and get black... On my past 996, the black faces were one of the things I disliked most! Too hard to read RPM at a glance on the track. I put in a shift light system discussed here:

You can get a 997.2S for around same price .....that car is boring and the wheels are my least favorite of all the 911 wheels....much better deals and much better overall packages to be had....good luck! Looking is sooo much of the fun...

PDK without Sports Chrono (or sport mode, if added after the fact) is very lazy shifting. I knew what to expect so I wasn't concerned about it before I had it added to my car (immediately after purchase), but fair warning.

I thought those wee Cayman wheels when I first saw them and didn't realize they were offered on 911's.

Thanks RedHot for the link. My budget for the new car is 45k so this is way out of my range and it has white gauges which for some reason I don't like... Find me a Carrera (my ideal is cream white/cocoa interior/PDK) from 09-12 in that condition below my price range and I will be VERY happy. Of course I must sell my 04 to complete the deal which adds to the adventure and I agree with your comment about looking, it is fun; especially when you already own a nice one yourself!
