Default High mile 997.1

I'm considering a 109,000 mile 997.1, silver coupe, non-S, Sept. 2004 build date. I understand that these "early" 05 cars had a replaceable IMS bearing, but that they also had the more problem-prone of the bearing designs. Car has had some paint work, but looks from the photos to be very nice.

It's overpriced, IMO, at $25K, but I wonder what folks here think about a fair price and whether it is too much of a gamble at any price.

Thanks

Terry

Options? If full leather, PCCBs, loaded with good service history that 25k may be a good deal.

Basically need more info. Options, 6 speed vs auto, owner history/maintenance, clear title, etc.

May be a little overpriced but if a general mix of options and decent history, I would still expect it to go in low 20's. Be surprised if less than 20k.

If its clean, everything checks out and the car has been taken good care of, i would overlook the mileage if you're getting a great deal.

At $25k i think it's a fair price. One of the lowest priced 997's in the country. A quick search on cars.com, the three cheapest 997's in the U.S. all want $25k. Two of them are automatic, and the 6 speed has 119k miles. Just food for thought.

Ya it's too hard to say if it's a good deal based on that info. It can be a great deal or a horrible one depending on overall condition, service history, options, color, etc. For instance if it needs alot of service that wasn't done, some paint correction, headlamp restoration, even tires.. then it can easily be 30K not even considering the weaker IMS bearing. For 30K you may find a cleaner, slightly lower mileage car. So it all depends..

It sounds like you may have the replaceable IMS with that build date. If you are inclined to replace the IMS /RMS know that the fact that's it a tiptronic adds considerably to the labor cost. I sold my 05 tip with 100,000 miles last fall and low 20's was the market for a tip. 6M cars brought more money.

Paid $27.5 for an '06 4S with slim options (sport chrono, Bose), 90k miles, and had been a DD for the first 8 yrs of its life in NYC-Conn. The front has a fair amount of road rash and it's required some love to get it close to where I want it, but had decent service history.

You might want to post the VIN so someone can pull a build sheet and see which options the car has.

Really depends on the history of the car. If it's well maintained, then it's one of the lowest priced 997's in the country. But if it is going to need a ton of work, it could end up being super expensive once all is said and done.

Thanks very much, all. This forum is extraordinary.

I've decided to pass on the car. It has practically no service history at all--they can't even tell if it has had a clutch (though I'm sure it has--the question is how recently).

I had a PPI done early this month on VIN # WP0CB29935S765896

Recent serious over rev reported in range 6. I was advised to walk away.
