Considering it - always wanted the 911 Turbo icon. Anyone gone this route?

I know VF or was it TPC (not sure) superchargers are more common but early on they had some real issues with the 05 model 997 for some reason with the ECU...

may have worked those out...

I meant adding a 997 Turbo to the stable....I would be nervous about modding my current 997S - drives perfect as is.

IMO, it makes more sense to have a cab + coupe or track + street if you're going to have more than one. Having 2 of the same car, one being a "fast" version is a little too much "hey, look at me" for me. I suspect having a redundant car will end up with one quickly become unused. I wouldn't invest my money on two (very similar) depreciating assets. I don't need to impress anyone that bad.

That said the 997.1s as we know about the best bargain Porsche on the market. A close second are the 997.1TT cars.... these cars can now be had in the 60K range (less if you don't mind sacrificing some mileage) and are pretty amazing machines. Keep stock and more then plenty to handle legally on any road... add suspension, upgrade the turbos+ecu and bolt ons for an easy 600+hp if that is ones desire....

A used 996gt3 can be bought for the same money.....60K range and will always hold its value if that's someones desire and more importantly suppose to be one of the best most engaging 911 cars to be driven ever built....

Or mix it up... Dodge Demon out in a month... now that is a completely different car then your 997s....

I paired my 997 with a Panamera. Bigger car, more space, fast as hell and still a Porsche!!

If you want a real icon, I'd say add a 930 Turbo or any aircooled 911 Turbo. A 997.1 TT will just give you "more" of the same, if you intend to keep the C2S.

Good points all around. Suppose it would be redundant. You think the 997 Turbo will continue to drop in value?

It would likely be a car I keep for 10+ years and slowly mod as I go along - 600hp range very likely. The only American car that interests me enough to spend a lot of money is the Ford Shelby GT350 which I own. I'm going to do less track events and was thinking of trading in the GT350 on a 911 Turbo, one popped up online I really like.

The only Porsches that make me want to spend lots of money are from the 997 series.

I think the 997 turbo is a fantastic car. I loved my turbo cabriolet. The 6MT cars with the Mezger engine are special. As mentioned above, the 997 turbo is a beast, even in stock form. Buy one!

I hope so, because I really want one. I can't afford to keep 2 Porsches and my '10 C4S cab is just so nice (for me at least) and low mile (~21k) that the only thing within my means I would want potentially more is a clean, low mile 997.2 TTS... I'm hoping the math works out well in a year or two (when my C4S will likely still have less than 35k miles on it...)

para82 - your question is one that I am constantly pondering. I would really like a 997 turbo cab....but don't want to give up my current Targa. Since my Targa is not an S I would think that I am pretty far from redundancy since the performance difference would be substantial.

I think a TT coupe would end up replacing your C2S. Maybe a cab if you like cabs to have a slightly different configuration, then maybe both make sense. Or if you wanted to move your C2S more to a track car since it already has the LWFW and IMS solution.

The TT power is awesome though and I don't think they'll depreciate much further, and not quickly, so it's pretty low risk to give it a try.

IMO and in my local market it seems the 997TT has dropped as low as it will go. I rate beacuse of their mezger heretige and value for money ATM they will only go up from here.
