PPI in Dallas TX, What should I pay for this car?
Hey All,
After a couple of months of looking I've come pretty damn close to my perfect car. The miles/price are higher than I like but I think i need to figure out a way to make it work.
The cars in Dallas, I'm looking to get a PPI if anyone has any recommendations, I saw a post from 2009 recommending "www.rufautocentre.com
ask for Hans...none better down here"
A new post suggests there may be a better shop currently in the area.
the car im looking at is an 07 c2s with 74k miles 6sp sports chrono extended leather and a double din navi
They are asking $38k and the car would need to be shipped to CA so that adds an additional $1000 basically and PPI price

I had a PPI done by RAC Performance near Dallas a few months back - http://www.racperformance.com
The head of the service department was Hans.
Very thorough job.

I highly recommend RAC Performance. Hans will take care of you. I've had work done there on my cars. I actually just bought another Porsche from him last week. Very knowledgeable shop...... Where is the car you're looking at buying? Dealer or Private Sale?

I'm in NY and purchased my 997.2 C2S in Dallas in 2015. Had the seller drive the car to RAC for a PPI. Great service and evaluation report. Several follow-up calls with Hans very helpful. Bought the car and delivered to NY.

I got a PPI at RAC last month and shipped the car to CA. Great service and the technician walked through with me explaining every step. They also have a guy that can restore your interior like new. For $300 he resprayed the center console, AC *****, door handles, and steering wheel trim as well as fixed worn leather on the gear shift. Saved me a ton from ordering new bits from Suncoast.
Another shop in the area I would recommend is FifthGear Auto in Lewisville. Ricky, the owner, is super and would likely be cheaper than RAC.
For reference I got the car shipped to CA for $800 using Uship. Montway filled the order and upgraded me to an enclosed trailer for no extra charge.
All in all a great experience and hope the same for you.

I think Ruf bacame Rac when they lost the affiliation.
Have also heard good on 5th gear.
I personally have been buying parts and routine maintenance from Zimms in mid cities for many years. He and Mayo are oldest P independents in DFW.

Correct. That's when it moved to RUF Auto US / Intermeccanica in Southfield, MI but Mike doesn't have it any more either. Closest RUF factory representation is now in Canada, but they're working on a new relationship with someone on the West Coast.
RAC has a very good reputation, though just recently, way overfilled someone's 997.1 gearbox to the point where fluid was being forced out the seals. He took it back and they serviced it again, this time only overfilling it by about 1/2 liter. Not sure if they have a new Tech or something there...

Price is way too high.
I was looking at several ~70k mile 997.2 C2Ss last year for 38-43k. While those prices may not have decreased, inventory sure has.

Perfect timing for me, looking at Porsche in Dallas area. The dealership I am buying would not do the PPI, I will call RAC tomorrow. Another question I have, for anyone who is buying out of state after the PPI has been complete are you then traveling to inspect the vehicle one more time before you make the purchase? Or is the PPI enough to where you don't need to see the car before its delivered?

Hi - from my experience I negotiated the price beforehand, then flew in for a day to bring the car over to RAC. PPI was clean except for a few minor things the seller agreed to fix, signed the papers that afternoon, Fedexed a check, and had the car delivered the following week. Quick and painless.
There were minor items I would not have known about if I hadn't flown in: the windshield was replaced with an aftermarket and the gasket had dry rotted (not a huge deal but if I want to fix it right it I need to replace the windshield), interior and exterior wear and tear you cant see in pics, etc.
I would recommend flying in for the day if at all possible.
