Led to this...




I can't tell you how bad the soot was. I steel wooled it for like and hour, and 3 min with the wire rotary attached to my drill got everything off. Pretty slick.

The wire drill brush is a good option if the piece has kind of a brushed finish and isn't too large so you can keep the finish lines going in the same direction, but won't work well if you're trying to achieve a mirror-like polished finish. Tips look good though.

Agreed. I just wanted to get them clean and not scratch the shlt out of them. Mission accomplished.
