Trying to decide if c2s or c4s for a daily. Help me
Hello guys.
After having thoughts about selling my e31 850csi and getting 964 I decided to go a different route and get a 997 as a daily and just keep the e31.
Now i have a dilemma.
Which one to get. c2s or c4s. Maybe you can help?

depends on what you want, where you drive (do you need 4wd? for rain or snow), what "feel" you like (safer more stable feel of the 4wd?). There isn't a "better" in this case, they both have their purpose

Did you do any research on the cars? 2S and 4S are identical except for the AWD. If you have any need for this feature - you love in Burlington VT and it's a DD- then go 4S. Don't know specifically about the 997 but the 993 4S cars were a bit heavier and a little slower. I assume it's the same. I have a 4S but we get 120" of snow a year and I wanted the option of winter driving. Probably never will though. In daily driving I doubt you'd ever know if you were in a 2S or 4S.

Fatandre -
Maybe tell us a little more about what you want out of your Porsche.
Where do you live? How's the weather? How are the roads?
By DD - do you mean, DD 300+ days per year, or DD during the summer months?
What do YOU like about a C2S vs. a C4S?
What do YOU like about a C4S vs. a C2S?
Are you looking for a 997.1 or a 997.2 - and if you know which, what is it about one or the other that interests you?
I saw your reply, "what's better when it comes to C2S?" - which loosely implies the C4S is your initial pick, but you don't want to miss out on the untold joys of a C2S.
When you were looking to sell the E31 and buy a 964, were you looking at the C2, or the C4 variant? Was there a particular reason you were looking at one over the other?
With a little more understanding on where you are with all of the above, the community response might offer more valuable replies to your query.
For me, I was initially looking for a 993 Targa. That search morphed into a 997.1 Targa 4s.
In the end, and after obsessing and searching diligently for a little over a year, I impulsively bought a C2S Cab. The reasoning being - "ok. I've got a 911. Now I can slow down and search without the anxiety of wanting a flatsix at my back 24/7."
Several years later, though I've looked at a few Targas since, and even eyeballed a few coupes - I'm completely into the C2S. Occasionally, (especially when chasing 4S variants in the rain) I kind of envy the C4S, but then, there are those with the 4s that have a certain look in their eyes after chasing my C2S in the rain too.
Share a little more info about what's important to you about the car, and what draws you to the 997 as a stablemate to the E31.

the cars are going to feel and drive the same in normal driving, traffic. maybe in a horrendous storm you may feel the awd kick in a spin, but for all intents and purposes youll never know. The 4S has some extras that arent available or are options over the S, you get alot more for the money. Plus they look better

I'm dailying my C2S in NoVA, dedicated winter wheels/tires for ~Nov-March. We haven't gotten any snow yet, but I wish I got a C4S for a year-round daily. I came from BMW xDrive, and the C2S feels a little squirrely in the cold/wet on turns.

For me the C4s has always been the bridge between the base 911 and a 911 Turbo. Turbo curves without the turbo. The C4s feels more planted, I have yet to get the rear loose in any way.

I don't think it has as much to do with the AWD being engaged as it has to do with the AWD drivetrain just being there. Drive across some ripples in the road in a C4S and then do the same in a C2S. Those ripples are transferred to the C2S steering wheel quiet differently than they are to the C4S wheel.

On the 997.2 the C4S has a LSD standard too. On the C2S it's an option and pretty rare one to find. On tight turns you can feel that outside rear wheel dig in and power through it.
