Default 997.2 PCM 3.0 iPod option missing

I have a MY10 997.2 with PCM 3.0. When i purchased the car (used) it did not have the iPod Y cable . I recently purchased an original new iPod cable from Porsche. When I plug in the 30-pin connector to the iPod I get a message on the bottom of the PCM saying that "iPod Ready", the screen of the iPod shows the Porsche logo but when I push the DISC button to scroll through the inputs I only get DISC and AUX. I can't play any music as I am locked out of the controls on the iPod.

If I plug in an iPhone 6 (with an Apple 30-PIN to Lightening connector) I get the same "iPod Ready" message and still only DISC and AUX appear but if I select AUX I can then use the MUSIC app on the iPhone and it will play music as if I have simply plugged in a 3.5mm cable.

Any ideas on how to get the iPod control interface to appear?

When you hit the Source button, your screen should look like this with direct access to iPod (old iPod classic 160) , you should not have to hit the DISC:

In my case (running an iPhone 4s), I have to begin playing a song for the iPod icon to appear on the PCM.

Were these cars supposed to come with the Y cable?

Who knows what Apple updates do to Porsche functionality.
For example, I have to reboot my phone every time before using it in the 911. Only then will the PCM "see" it. Then it will charge and play through PCM controls. When I'm home and out of the car, it won't recharge in the house until I reboot it again. So, back and forth I have to reboot the phone. Sometimes we go days to weeks without a reboot. Remember, they are computers and need it every now and then for one of many reasons. Try it.

I don't get the iPod option as a source even though the PCM says "iPod Ready" and a can play music if I select AUX.

Thats an annoying situation. I have an iphone 4. with PCM 3 and it works fine every time. I dont do any extra steps, besides making sure that the USB on the Y adapter is plugged in to the car, and the other apple connector side is plugged into the iphone. I don't use that junk as a phone though. just there as a music storage device

I run into this every now and then. Generally it seems to be an issue with the iPod overheating or the interface cable not having a clean connection.

Do you have Option 870 - Universal Audio Interface iPod®, USB, AUX. Without that option I don't believe it will work.

Also available as an option is
the universal audio interface.
This enables you to connect
your iPod®, a USB stick/MP3
player or any other compatible
audio source of your choice.
The iPod® or USB stick can
be operated conveniently and
safely via PCM.

I don't know about option 870, keeping in mind I am Australia and you could not get a 997 without PCM. I do have the connectors in the console with IPOD, USB and AUX on them and the PCM display says "iPod Ready" when I plug it in.

Without option 870 you will be unable to properly see or play your device and will require an alternate; here is more info from a recent post:

There are many more threads re this matter (search can be your friend) and I believe that this applies to 7.2 as well as 7.1, however more knowledgeable members will need to confirm.

Is it possible to have the IPOD/USB/AUX connectors in the console without having the 870 option?

If you can find your option list (either underside of hood or maybe pasted in the maintenance book) you should be able to confirm the presence or absence of that specific option. If possible, I'd want to confirm that before I spent much more time trying to "fix" the issue.

It may be that you have to first have a CD in the disc drive and then go to options to turn on the other inputs (aux, ipod, etc). When I picked up my 997.2 with PCM 3.0, I had to follow the above procedure to activate the other audio sources. They were not availabel unless I had a CD and went to the options tab. The procedure is also in the manual.

I can confirm that Australian delivered 997.2's all had PCM 3.0 with the Universal Audio Interface installed as standard and did not have a 870 option on the build sheet. It was part of the Australian Built specification.

I have used the same cable and iPod on a MY09 997.2 and the iPod option appeared in Source list.
I am now wondering if the actual Universal Audio Interface needs to be programmed into the PCM, that is to tell the PCM that it is there, and for some reason mine has forgotten about it. I guess it is time to book it into a dealer and get them to have a look at it.
