Default Fabspeed sports headers

Rec'd headers and center muffler delete yesterday. nicely packaged, beautiful appearance (polished as per advert) nice welds.

One problem so far: removing original headers/cats a breeze, all manifold bolts removed easily with standard t12 socket.
installing the Fabspeeds, there are clearance issues between header bolt heads and pipes, esp. top center bolt each side. I have a fairly hurky impact looking socket. went and purchased a thinner walled t12 and still cannot get socket onto bolt head squarely due to proximity of header pipe.

maybe a bolt with a shorter shank? I don't want to start shopping bolts after spending about 4k. I have u-joint also.

maybe a total thin wall socket? (my thin wall has a base that interferes)

will email Fabspeed tonight also for any info.

Anyone here have experience/solution?

Have you tried reversing the bolt and nut and use a stubby open ended wrench on the header side and socket in the front? Posting a pic of the clearance issue will help determine the solution. At 4k, it should at least come with proper directions. Good luck

Yup, short thin wall socket, has to be 1/4 drive and 1/4 swivel. I actually used a standard 6pt and found the one that fit the tightest on that Torx type bolt head, turned out to be an 3/8 if I remember correctly. It was the only tool I could fit in there.

Tried Wolfk's recommendation and it worked!
thanks again.

was able to complete the job and did a short run. the sound is similar to stock until you get above 3k and it has a nice yowl.

can't say I feel the total combined horsepower claims for sports headers/central muffler delete, but more driving will reveal more.

all in all, I like the sound, and plan to enjoy it.

You might also try a battery disconnected for 10 minutes as that will clear the DME of the fuel trims and make it relearn based on the changes. Just driving it will get you there eventually, but doing the disconnect gets you there much faster.

Let us know if you feel a difference. Don't worry about the warning lights that come on after the reconnect, like PSM failure - they'll turn off after you start driving, and don't fully close the hood with the battery disconnected (I throw a t-shirt over the latch receiver just to make sure).

The headers are really nice - I have them on my car. Did the headers, mufflers, and cats at one time though, so can't tell you the incremental contribution of each piece, just that it's awesome.
