Default Did I Do the Right Thing?

Dear Rennlisters:

I'd love to get your opinions what I've just done. After years of dreaming, I just pulled the trigger on a 2010 S from AutoHaus in Tempe. The car has 44K miles on it (more than I wanted, but the car is EXACTLY what I was looking for).

I had Jack from Stuttgart Southwest do the PPI. I think he's more of an aircooled guy, but he had good things to say about the car--only a half page of very minor observations.

The service history wasn't a complete as I'd like, but I'm trying to track down more by calling dealerships. As a part of the deal the AutoHaus Porsche certified tech will perform the 40K service.

I paid a tad less than the average according to Car Gurus. I'll fly out, and drive the 950 miles through the desert back to South Texas. I've programmed in the time to make a drive on a stretch of amazing mountain road near Ft. Davis.

Thoughts?

What you have just done is make a dream come true...something that doesn't happen often enough. And it being exactly the one you were looking for is huge. I did the same thing 7 years ago and just put a new engine in it, because it's still exactly what I want, still turns heads, and I look forward every day to driving it.

Sounds like a good car. The .2's seem to have solved a lot of the scary reliability issues of the .1. And the drive back sounds like an awesome trip too! Congrats, drive the heck out of it safely and enjoy!

You did the right thing.

I did a similar thing with my first 911; bought it in California and had a nice road trip!

Congrats!

If you like it now my guess it is only going to get better and better. But it is important NOT to buy something that is so-so. From that perspective you have what you really wanted.

It took me more than 2 years to find the right one. A few times I was really eager to pull the trigger on 997:s that was maybe 70% of what I wanted.

Try not to speed on those lonely stretches of I10. Just kidding, that'll be impossible!
Enjoy the trip, and post some pics.
Congrats.

Prepare to fall in love again and again and again. A good friend's wife calls his 997 "The Tart" and you will soon understand why!!!

Congratulations and welcome to the club. Post pictures or it never happened!

You bought a 911, of course it was the right thing. Enjoy the drive back home.

Hope to be in your shoes soon.

A dealer may check the car over and say it is OK but in order to get a CPO from Porsche it costs the dealer around $2K - many dealer do not like to do this if they don't think they can recoup it from the sale.

Thank you for the encouragement, tips, and warnings.

I didn't know a non-Porsche dealer could certify the car. I've decided to go with a Fidelity Platinum warranty for a few years for peace-of-mind. My local Porsche dealer uses them exclusively as their after-market, extended-warranty company (according to the dealer).

I'm thrilled, to say the least. I will post some pics from the road.

You're correct- a non-Porsche dealer cannot cpo the car. Congratulations on your purchase!

I just received great pricing for Fidelity warranties from:

No affiliation and no connection other than other Rennlisters. Also, geographically I am no where near him.

Good luck!
