are you looking for affirmation that you did the right thing by purchasing the car? Or, are you looking for affirmation that you did the right thing by waiting this long to buy a 911?

I don't think anyone can answer number 1 for you. We don't know the car, your financial situation, or you in general.

as far as #2, No, you didn't do the right thing waiting this long to buy a 911. You should have done it years ago. Those are several years of no 911 that you'll never get back.

It's called Cognitive Dissonance. It is a feeling of psychological discomfort one feels when having to make a choice than conflicts with various beliefs. For example, perhaps your belief was that you wanted a 911 with 20K miles and at least a 2007 but you bought an '05 w/ 40K miles. Hence the internal conflict. One of the ways to ease this conflict is to seek out justification for your purchase. To wit, everyone here who tells you that you made the right choice lessens the internal conflict - which declines in proportion to the reinforcement.

I'm not saying it was a good or bad decision to buy the car; instead simply highlighting the possible motivation behind the thread. Sometimes if you know the root of your uncertainty it helps to ameliorate it.

Yep, the only regret one should have behind the wheel of a 911 is "Why the heck didn't I buy one of these sooner?"

I agree with the dissonance, but I think it a contributing factor was also that I never felt like I knew enough to make the purchase. I pour over these threads and think, "I'll never know enough to make a smart buy." Too many pitfalls, etc.

It is reassuring to hear experts comment even though biased in favor of 911 ownership. I'd hope that if I made a **** of it someone would mention it.

BTW, I found out that the Black Book value of the car is about grand less than I paid. Ugh. I just couldn't find my ideal spec any less.

A friend once said that to me about splurging on a really nice Barolo with a meal. I haven't forgotten, but, in retrospect, it was worth it. I have a feeling things will work out just fine.

Last month bought my 09 S down in Austin. Same mileage as yours. It was a CPO that has ran out but owner was a very intense engineer type with all the paper work. I did take along my best bud who is a life long Porsche tech. I did not buy an insurance policy. On my last P car a '06 Cayman I did. I feel that good about the newer 9A1 motor, which you also have. This is P car #7 for me so I could get bit but got a comfort level over the years.
I am sure you will enjoy I10 more than I did I35 on the way home. Might remember DPS in Texas can impound and take you in if cruzing over 100. Not so sure about NM, but sure is empty in places.

No doubt! Interstate 35 is the bane of Texas from Mexico to Oklahoma--the WORST! I think I'll take it easy...for the most part.

Glad to hear about your being so comfortable with model. I've decided to go for 2 years/24K miles for the warranty. I nerded out and used a rudimentary regression technique to compare the slopes of the of the cost over time, and think the sweet spot is 2 years.

Understand a comfort level. I'm retired and mine is a toy. Goes down, it sits there till feel like fixing it. The Cayman was DD at that time.
As bad as I35 is, the Texas Autobahn around Austin is very nice. Come to think of it, it ties in now down West of SA a bit too doesn't it?

I like S.H. 130 (Texas Autobahn), but there are some crazy long humps/dips in it especially between Seguin and Lockhart. It produces some fun negative G then a bunch of "compression." Then there are the feral hogs to contend with...

You're absolutely right about IH 10 west of San Antonio--from 1604 to Boerne--awful. Boerne has become very chic, and the property taxes are much cheaper outside the city. The result--more sprawl. Almost any good stretch of road requires a slog through the the worst traffic areas of town.
