Default Extended Warranty

OK, I'm going to apologize beforehand because I know this has been asked and answered, but when i search I'm not getting anywhere fast as it's a lot of sorting. So hopefully my question can get answered fairly quickly and the thread will die. 2 Months ago i bout a 2008 C2S Cab that is loaded and had only 4235 miles on it. Was held up in a divorce and sat except for monthly drives to keep things proper. Oil changes and brake fluid changes all done every year or so. I took the car to the local guy near me who's been in business for 25 years or so and he gave it a clean bill of health. I paid $51k on a $114k build. So I got a nice deal. Of course there is no warranty with the car and I'm seriously thinking hard of biting the bullet and getting like a 7 yr./70,000 mile warranty. I know the time will come before the mileage I believe. Is Fidelity the only company I should even consider? Do I get that directly from them or do I go through the dealership? Anyone have any idea what it might run with so few miles on it now? I'd hate to end up with a blown engine or tranny or IMS or anything that would require a $10k plus bill. I'm not a fan of spending a few grand on a warranty and always turn them down when buying new computers, appliances, etc. I just think that it might be prudent of me. Thoughts? And again sorry if this has been beaten like a dead horse.

Get the IMS Solution done if you are worried and pass on the extended warranty. I am not a fan of extended warranty.

tons of threads on this, and it comes down to the following;

how much do you value peace of mind that a catastrophic failure is covered? then see if the warranty price is less than that...

i bot one but mine was still covered under factory warranty so the price was much lower than if I had gotten one out of factory warranty. in your situation, i personally would not get one if it costs more than $5k.

Plenty of threads on this but as a data point I paid 2700.00 for a 6/60 Fidelity platinum with 100 deductible on a 2012 GTS4 with 5300 miles. I have seen lower quotes since but it is what it is. I wanted some fall back in the case things go south... Fidelity has a pretty good reputation.

Let me mildly hijack, but what's the worse (costliest) that could happen, mechanically speaking. Engine blows? PDK explodes? How much would such a worse case scenario mechanical failure to a large subsystem like that cost in round numbers for a 997? 25 K? 30 K?
Thanks,
T

I just got off the phone with my very local Porsche dealer. They don't offer Fidelity, but only Porsche warranty. He wanted $11,500 for 7 year/100k mile. Seriously? Who the hell buys that?

I paid $4200 for a 6-yr bumper-to-bumper warranty on my '05 back in '11. So far it has reimbursed roughly $9500, and it still has 6 months left. So the worst I would have been out if I didn't have the warranty would be $5300. Not a fortune, but I'm not sorry I got the warranty! I paid roughly the same for the same kind of warranty on a diesel E-Class last year and it has already paid for itself. The experience I've had with every German car I've ever owned was the extended warranties have reimbursed roughly twice what I paid for them.

But those are exclusionary warranties aka bumper to bumper, where if the busted part isn't on the short list of exclusions, it's covered hands-down. The named-item warranties are where they have wiggle room to deny claims, because if the specifically-named part isn't on the list they don't have to pay.

Call Troy Dietrich of Toyota of Greenfield, Ma. I bought a Fidelity for my 2012 Cayenne Turbo. Cheapest by far and I called around to many Porsche and non-porsche dealers.
