Paint chips from stones...
Bruce, LexVan, and others....could you post a pic of what your chip touch ups look like? Everytime I have tried it looks horrible, basically a raised paint area. I am probably using too much paint and poor technique...would love to see what is possible if done correctly.
thanks!
thanks!
+1 on the Dr. Colorchip. Takes practice. It also does not "fill" in the hole as much as stain the metal black so you can't see it from some angles. And multiple layers does make it look better. From a couple feet you can't see it, but when you wash/wax you will notice.
What's the cost for a hood respray in a non rare (basalt black) color? Don't care about the chips now but if I do respray may consider a hood wrap. But with a full front wrap ~$2000, it may be cheaper to repaint every couple of years.
I read here on the forum that the best way to fix small ones is by a toothpick or even a needle. After clening and drying the spot they just used a tooth pick or needle and dipped it in the paint and then put it in the hole. If you use the paint brush that follows with the touch up paints they are usually much too big and you just create a big puddle of paint that overfill the hole in the clear coat.
I haven't tried it but seems logic and a good way of fixing the small ones. Maybe up to 2 mm in diameter.

The lid will be about the same price. I have not done it yet.

Our hoods are incredibly simple to respray. No curves or humps nor ancillary attachments like washer nozzles to tape or remove.
^^^$400 for a front bumper cover respray is a good deal IMO
