Default 2010 C2S - purchased CPO from dealer in 2014 - should they have replaced the plugs?

Hi everyone!

I bought my 2010 911 C2S in 2014 from a local Chicago dealer. It was a CPO (and is still under warranty until 9/18/2016), and the dealer said that routine services were up to date. It's now 2016, and I was checking the service records, and it seems that they did not replace the spark plugs, which should have been done every 4 years. Shouldn't the dealer have replaced the spark plugs in 2014? It's now 2 years late for that service--which a different dealer says costs $1200-1300.

Thanks in advance for your thoughts!

Yes, plugs every 4 years!

Plugs cost 500 incl. labor at the P-dealer.

Thanks CF-- $500 including labor? Not at my local P-dealer!--they quoted $1300.

I'm going to ask the dealer from which I purchased the car whether they will perform the service at no cost now, since they should have done it in 2014 when I bought the car. Stay tuned!

Even Porsche realizes that four years is a ridiculously short interval. That said, they should have changed them based on their maintenance schedule. But timing could make a difference. It is possible for a car with a 2010 in service date to be less than four years old when you purchased it and/or CPO services performed and the car placed for sale.

You should have received a CPO checklist on purchase - what did it say about the plugs?

The CPO checklist just has a check in the box entitled "Pass" next to "Perform Scheduled Maintenance".

I bought my 2010 P-car in 2014 as a CPO from the Porsche Exchange in Highland Park, Illinois.

How many miles? Changing plugs is part of the 40K service IIRC. If this was done before your purchase simply checking the box (vs swapping the plugs) makes sense.

So the 40K service would have been a little ... optimistic.

Two things...

I just bought a certified car that hadn't had it's plugs changed in 7 years, and I had to work pretty hard to get the dealer to help me on it. Ultimately they did, but I think it would be tricky after 2 years.

Regarding your quote, call more dealers. The first place I called said 1150ish. The second quoted 650. Not sure why dealers within 30 miles of each other would be so different... like the think people wouldn't question it? Bizarre.

Here is a link to a maintenance chart from 2010 and a major service is scheduled at 60,000 km (37,000 miles) or 4 years. So either event can trigger the service and plug replacement is part of a major service. There is a footnote that states annual maintenance is required for vehicles under 9,000 miles per year.

You are two years too late to be asking this question. Buying a CPO Porsche doesn't mean you get free routine maintenance, it only means that you get an extended warranty that covers items that break or fail. Lets look at it this way, If you were to buy a brand new Porsche and they offered you bumper-to-bumper coverage for 5 years or 50,000 miles, they still wouldn't replace spark plugs free of charge. Spark plugs are considered routine maintenance just like changing out the oil or windshield wipers. It's a consumable item or wear item.

Just called DFW area dealers. 4 yr or 40k plus plugs is about 1400 and brake flush bout 200. Will fess up. Before buying my '11 s, I did lots of research. Model, yr, and options I decided req'd. Issues to avoid. Things to check. Read forums. Misc reviews. Did it all. Knew exactly what I wanted.
One criteria was cpo. So watched porsche site literally daily for 6 months. Talked to lots of dealers. Knew every car including 4s and older turbo's. Even looked at dealer inventory for many dealers in case one didn't make it to porsche USA listing. Finally found it. The one. Talked many times to great sales guy. Good good deal and the shipping company was perfect service, will use again when time arises. 6 months and 1 week I'm still in heaven and know I bought the right one at right time.

But you ask. Why do you know cost of 4yr etc? I asked about service records and they matched my expectations except for brake flush which was ok. The missing element was time. I didn't catch previous owner didn't do 40k at 4 yr mark. Did the 30k which mileage met. In 8/2015 which was right. I now have 37k and will hit 40 in 4-5 months. Hindsight I should have asked them to include doing 40k, 4yr service as part of the deal. Might have caused deal breaker, who knows since in looking recently, no cars with my options and much higher pricing since I bought. Dealer didn't do anything wrong from cpo perspective.

Based on many, many bmw's, I expected oil chg only. Am I po'd. Nope, just lesson learned to research and haggle more and see what happens. And I still think got great deal on right car. Most of all, I still love the car. Only regret was waiting this long to smile and lust every time I drive.
