Reporting that my yellowing clear guards came off easily with the aid of wife's hair dryer and a bit of Goo Gone. washed waxed slapped on Magnagrafix Flat Blacks hoping they stay on!!
Just as an update, I Plasti-Dipped my passenger side stone guard with Anthracite Gray. My car is Meteor Gray. The colors are too close. I think on a lighter car (white, perhaps), this would be a really attractive alternative to black.
I've removed it and am going to go with black this week.
Maybe it's just me but I don't like these at all ... but good to know that I can remove the old 'clear' (now yellow) ones on my car. It looks like a particularly large dog has done a massive **** on the car.
However, I am concerned that if we ever do see rain here in California, that they may fly off at "spirited" driving speeds. Since I like the look, I went ahead and ordered the black ones from Suncoast for a more "permanent" installation.

I got the black stone guards from Suncoast yesterday. I decided to install them over the stock clear ones, since I didn't want to risk damaging the paint by taking the old ones off. They are the same size as the stock stone guards on my car, and the installation was very easy. Water in a spray bottle, with a couple drops of dishwasher detergent. Spray onto the stone guards, and position, then dry with a squeegee.
They look great, and no fear of them flying off in the rain at high speeds (not that it rains here much).
If anyone is interested in my old Magnafrafik stone guards, I'd be willing to sell them off cheap.

I am definitely a fan of matte black stone guards too. Mine are Magnagrafik over the original clear. Yes they are shorter than originals, but on darker color cars the clear one is hardly noticeable underneath. Have used them at the track hitting speeds up to 130mph. Definitely take them off when washing the car. I forgot one time while washing the car and high pressure water blew them right off!! I like them a lot and am seriously considering ordering some vinyl ones if the magnagrafiks ever fly off.
