Glad you're okay; cars and deer can easily be replaced. Poor car though

Super dangerous while driving at night - the incidence of deer related car accidents is huge - like over 1/2 million a year. I hate driving at night now on highways and avoid it if at all possible - and even in the suburbs of Atlanta on neighborhood roads, we still have to watch out for deer.

Looks like it was a really nicely done car - what a shame.

Thats the silver lining. Gt3, gts, 987 boxster spyder, 997.2 4s. Options options. Once i get official word on the insurance outcome the search will begin.

Although a big part of me wants MY car back.

I can't imagine that'll be totaled...

Are those the rollover bars that I see popped out?

jaybird22 - Any story you can tell, is a good story.

Deer - zero
997 - saved its occupant as designed.

Good you had your harness's on, because that non-airbag wheel would have made a mess of you.

Don't think your out of the woods yet. It could take a few days for your bruising and internal trauma to surface. Take it easy. Monitor carefully.

found this searching on the subject:
  • There are approximately 1.5 million deer-related car accidents annually.
  • The cost of these accidents results in over $1 billion dollars in vehicle damage.
  • There are around 175-200 fatalities every year and 10,000 injuries.
  • The majority of these accidents occur between October and December, but can happen year round.

Oh man Jay...sorry about the 997 (and the deer), but as was mentioned above, the 997 did what it was supposed to by protecting you and your passenger!

You'll rise again in something even more special...

Bummer, glad you are OK.

Here in PA, my deer hunting relatives are all very much upset about the lack of deer in the state. They say, not sure this is all true, that the insurance lobby petitioned Harrisburg to up the doe kills to therefore lower payouts from collisions.

Here in SE PA, where Bambi is Queen, we have way way too many deer. Hunting aside, I firmly believe the deer populations are out of control as we have killed off their predators. These things are flat out dangerous.

Nuke the deer.

Peace

Interesting that you chose to take off the airbag safety feature of your steering wheel. That can make the difference between life and death. Glad you're OK.

My arm-chair body shop expertise says this car won't be totalled by the insurance company.

Good luck with it all and take care

Wow. Makes you wonder what deer are good for?

I use Sfi rated 5 point harnesses and fixed back seats in the car. Im secure. Trust them more than the standard 3point belts and an airbag.

Having spent $1800 to have a bumper resprayed and minor cracks repaired its very easy to see how an 10-11 yr old car can be a total loss. We'll have to wait and see. The thousands add up quickly.

I wouldn't want it any other way. OP will get the maximum amount with it being totaled, usually works out much better than trading it in or selling it. It'll never be the same after it's fixed. No one will want to buy it with a salvage title. I would push hard to get it totaled if the insurance doesn't want to do it.

Yikes, that's scary. I head butted a turkey with my 997.2S windshield about a month ago, and that was scary enough. I am glad you are OK. As someone said, please monitor yourself as symptoms can manifest over a few days...T
