Forum and internet ruining ownership experience…?

Until you started this thread I hadn't heard of Bore Scoring or IMS failures! Now I've done a bunch of research and am petrified of the potential financial punishment that lurks around every corner! Thanks a lot!!!!

Its all puppies and unicorns till it happens to you
I am just going through the rebuild options given I have the bore scoring issue
I love the forums. Very knowledgeable people and very helpful but shiite happens. As someone said, if the cars weren't so great to drive, id sell it and move on
But likely moving to a 4L rebuild with upgraded nikie sleeves and upgraded isms
And a bunch more HP and TQ
Life goes on

Hopefully you report back about this. I'm really interested in the 4L builds with nickies. Not much owner data floating around about it.

I'm the IMS boogie man - i'm under your bed when you're sleeping and I carry all your bearings in a sack. If you listen closely you can hear them jingle.

I enjoy the forums and find the DIY postings very helpful. I'm amazed at the effort random strangers will make to share their experiences with others, even down to 20-page pdfs with hi-quality photos. It's wonderful. I've tacked a few jobs already thanks to the confidence you folks have created in me.
Unfortunately these forums have also taught me that my car may fly apart at any moment due to shortcomings in every component it contains, and even worse I learned that everything I do with it, even using the radio, causes it to depreciate more rapidly.

I guess my question is ....After owning Ferrari's, Lambo's, Vintage P-cars, etc....What made you decide on buying an '06 with 88k miles??? Not that it is a bad car or anything BUT, seems like you could have maybe done better and got a newer, less driven CPO'd car that would have give you added piece of mind. Of course having owned the Italians you have listed you must be somewhat accustomed to worrying about an engine failure!!

Low mileage cars scare me more than high mileage. These cars like to be driven. They do not like to sit. I'll pass 75K miles on my 2010 C4S as I drive home tonight. She runs better now than she did 19 months ago when I acquired guardianship with a mere 35K miles. 88K miles is a young 911. Go out, drive, enjoy. That's the best way to put your mind at ease.

IF there was a poll on the bore scoring I bet it would show the same as the IMS in the sticky thread on top. Very low frequency contrary to the general opinions and rumours.
Edit: ha, ha - just saw that sticky has been added. Sorry. Now I have contributed to statistics showing no bore scoring.

I put over 75,000 miles on mine (now at 85,638 miles) - runs like a champ.

But why stop there? Why not get a brand new 991.2 with factory warrenty then?
Because, it was a 997.1 I wanted, and I fell in love with this very car. It was an "Approved warranty" cars until this spring (max 10 years), and to be honest I did/do not think 88k miles is a big deal.
Again, the doomsday storys takes up much less space in those communitys imo. Rightfull or not.

As a fellow Testarossa owner, I know what you are talking about. Every car has its faults and sometimes the owners magnify the smallest details. With the TR it was the fuse panel and diff. the 997 is is the IMS and ??? In truth its such a small percentage a good PPI will weed it out. That said, only the problem owners will chime in, you never hear from the the thousands and thousands of owners who have no major issues.
