No smoke, minimal oil consumption, no soot on the tips but got paranoid and decided to bore scope it. #6 bore scored, didn't bother to check out the other cylinders. Patiently waiting to see how the 997.2 or 991.1 motors pan out.

It developed a very slight tick towards the end my ownership, I knew I was on borrowed time. There is no way I could afford payments and get it rebuilt properly(flat6) while dealing with new found health issues, so I chose the lesser evil and traded it in.
2005 carrrera S, bought CPO with 8k miles many moons ago.. now 65k enthusiastic miles, southern california weather. Have several cars so it probably gets fired up 2-3 times a week for fun canyon runs up and down the coast and tracked about 12 times/yr. Never had any problems with the exception of excessive tire replacements.. my fault for running trofeo-R's regularly.
Noob here and looking at a 997.1 on Friday. Would be my first Porsche. Favorite car since a little kid, and now at 33 really thinking about making it happen.

What year/mileage/trim? I did not opt for borescope on my PPI (2008 C2S w/53k).
Clinton, if you can swing it, I would recommend purchasing a warranty. Fidelity would offer you pretty much anything they sell with that mileage. I bought my '05 C2 with 28k miles and got a 6 year/60k mile Platinum warranty. I figure it will pay for itself in the first 2-3 repairs (which you know will happen, it's a car), plus you'll be covered for IMS/bore scoring should it arise. It's somewhat expensive, but not as expensive as a motor rebuild/replacement should the 2 items that everyone freaks out about with these happens. Good luck! They are a blast to drive!
Edit: Had car for 1 month and 1k driven. Burned 3 qts of oil and driver side exhaust tip sooted over.
No knocking noises. Cylinder #6 scored. Car had no record of over revs and only had 5k when purchased in Dec 15.
Fortunately it was CPO. No doubt issue was there when car was purchased and not picked up in CPO process by dealer.
