Default Replaced Key battery; now no worky (help?)

Brain trust,

I thought I would go ahead and replace the battery in my key. I carefully removed and replaced with new one (correct), snapped it back together and buttons do not operate doors/lock. The key still works on the door and ignition. Putting the old battery in did not help either. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Was the old battery dead? Do you get a red indicator light on the key when you push the buttons?

I thought I heard a beep, so I decided to go ahead and replace the key battery. The beep turned out to be, I think, the intermittent left fog light. I carefully removed the old battery and replaced it. Looked pretty clean in there and carefully reinstalled it. I don't think I bent any tabs. Fortunately, no dreaded immobilizer problems. It's my only key and I'm thinking it's time to suck it up and get a new key anyhow.

Are you sure you put the battery in right? Maybe take it apart and flip the battery over.

Tried flipping battery and carefully replacing it. I suppose I'll wait until the next oil change. If I can't even change the battery in the key, no telling what could happen if I changed my own oil.

I had the same thing happen to me. I replaced the battery in my fob and it would not work, but it did work in the door and ignition.

I took the fob apart several times and put it back together hoping I had prevously assembled it wrong - no luck.

Finally, I removed the battery and cleaned the contacts points off with a q-tip and alcohol. Then I ever so gently pulled up on the contact points to get a little more resistance on the contact points between the battery and the electronic part of the fob. Bingo - that did the trick and it now works great.

Best of Luck!

The door unlocking (mechanicaly) and engine starting (dialog with the RFID chip in the key) make no use of the battery, so those should work regardless of battery.

The battery only powers the transmitter for the buttons to remote unlock/lock - so the contact issue described may well be the key (no pun intended).

Same issue with one if my keys recently. One if them just stopped working (remotely) so I swapped it it with a new battery. When I push the buttons on the key, the red light blinks but no worky. I'll try cleaning contacts bit if it's blinking, I assume they're good. Any other thoughts or recommendations?

I bought replacement key through ebay & it works great... do a search & you'll see how to do this... you will reuse existing blade and have to carefully remove the transponder(small rectangle piece). Apply Goo Gone lotion and let it soak in(apply more than once) before carefully separating from surrounding edges... I was able to separate transponder without damaging or destroying your old key housing.

Default Thanks! working now

Yep, sure enough. I carefully cleaned the contacts with alcohol and slightly bent the clips. Now working perfectly.

Thanks again for the help.
