New battery in key fob - programming?
My 997 is sold and is being shipped out on Tuesday. I realized that one of the keys, the battery was dead.
I want to send it to the new owner perfect.
Had my assistant replace the battery. I guess the key needs to be programmed. Is this a DIY? I understand the dealership charges over $300 to do it.
Thanks

I had the same thing happen...battery went dead, replaced it myself, but the car didn't recognize the key fob. I took it to the dealer and the technical re-sync'd it while I waited at no charge...you may be able to google it...I think you hold down the hazard light while putting the key in the ignition and turning it on (accessories, not engine)...or something like that. Good luck.

Just changing the battery (even a dead one) shouldn't require any reprogramming. The $300 you're hearing about is to reprogram the ignition device that recognizes the transponder chip contained in the remote head so that the car will start when you purchase a new key. An assistant to change a remote battery? - you guys in SoCal roll differently.

All I can tell you is that I had the same issue...battery in fob died...I replaced it (didn't bend the gold tab...which is easy to bend)...the fob and the car weren't talking to each other...the tech did his magic in all of 90 secs (again...I believe he held the hazard light button down) and bam! It worked...they said this was fairly common...

Resynchronizing key on 997
From what I just heard from my dealer, you place the key in the ignition and move it to the second position. Then you hold down the unlock button on the key until a red light flashes on the dash. You then repeat this for the other key. According the service consultant, the key needs to readapt.
I just bought a 997.2 that exhibited this issue with key 1. The key would unlock the car remotely and fit in ignition, but no functionality.

When I replaced my key battery (last May) it was easy.
Just put the key in the door lock, and turned it to unlock it and then lock it.
Pretty much like "waking" it up again, after not having the key in the lock for more than 7 days. It's worked fine since.
