Questions...

1. What brake system do you have (Black, Red, Yellow)?

2. What pads are you using?

3. Are you installing them dry or with some compound/grease?

Same setup, no dampers, no squeal

C2S stock calliper and rotors, no dampers:

1) Pagid Yellow pads front and rear - brakes perfectly, no squeal during aggressive braking when spirits driving. But squeal and screeeeam like a 30 year old truck during slow braking at traffic lights and getting in/out of carpark. Squeal mainly from the rear.

2) had swapped the rear back to stock pads for now, still no dampers. Now I only get a little squeal from the front when braking softly at low speed

3) I'll put Pagid Yellow pad back on the rear being heading to the track-day next weekend. But I'll probably put the stock pads back to stock pads after the track-day. No plan to put dampers on.

I hear that racing pads squeal the worst and that is why I like Textar because they are softer material and quieter, unfortunately with that comes more brake dust and shorter life span. For the type of daily driving I do I am okay with that.

Try some ceramic pads, like Akebone.
Quiet and dust free, but not a race type pad.

I looked on Akebone's web catalog and they do not offer brake pads for my 911. I was able to find a set of Hawk pads from TireRack.

Does anyone have any thoughts on whether using the dampers reduces the heat transfer from pads or actually concentrates it?

Yes, racing pads squeal the worst. What I was trying to point out per your questions was that 1) the brake pad has greater cause of squeal than with/out dampers. And 2) doing away with dampers have been no issue for me.

I run no dampers... stock pads are quiet this way.

My PFC08 track pads are more like a dump truck around town... to the point where I hate driving the car back and forth to the track...

I may actually try to put the dampers back on with the PFC08's and see if that changes anything... ya never know... though I'm not even sure that I would be able to...

I am so confused about what you are saying... Please elaborate on the statement in red.

I find changing to different type of brake pads have greater impact to the amount of squeal, than doing with or without the dampers. Hope this is more clear.

Ah, got it. What about replacing rotors?

No idea but I doubt it. I've only used OEM rotors so far.

Typically the the rotors shouldn't matter too much. However when you slap new pads on with old rotors, there is still a transfer material left on the old rotor from the new pad. So a new rotor is better because its new, but technically the old pad material should rub off and the new material transfer onto the rotor. But if the compounds mix and aren't compatible, who knows.

Your rotors looks like they still have meat on them, I think i can see the wear indicator and not cracks between the holes. On another note, are those Porsche rotors, the hats look a little rusty.
