Default Seat Wear and Tear

Hello Rennlist Members, I'm a recent new owner of a 08 Carrera. I've only had it for 2 weeks and I noticed that there is some wear(light scratches) on the seat where i get in. I'm not sure if I missed it when I was looking at the car to purchase it or if I have done the damage myself with some jean rivets. The car has very low mileage so it's not normal wear and tear and is quite likely from my jeans. I was wondering if there is any advice on how to repair this? My seats are black and I was thinking of just using some black shoe polish lightly on the area and then buffing the living daylights out of it with cloth.

thanks

I would not use shoe polish. It will transfer to your clothing. It's not permanent.
A leather dye would be a better solution.

Yup, use a leather dye. You can find matching dyes on eBay if you want to go the DIY route. Otherwise take it to a local auto upholstery shop, detailer, or sometimes a body shop can get it done (or sub it out).

Take a look at Colorplus or Leatherique for dye and leather softener. I redid my linen seats in my old 964 with Colorplus products a few years ago and it worked great. I sent them my old shift **** and they matched the color so well that it was actually a challenge trying to see where I was applying the dye because the color was a perfect match.

Also my old 964 leather had gotten very stiff like fibrous cardboard and the softener turned it back into super soft leather.

No affiliation with either but I have the Leatherique cleaner and softener in my garage right now and am waiting until it warms up so I can apply it on my seats. The chemicals penetrate the leather better when warm.

good luck.

Default Seat Repair

Thank you guys for the suggestions of leather dye. I'll see what is available locally here in Vancouver. Cheers.

I can recommend a shop in Vancouver. Either that or cow patterned seat covers

I am a big DIY guy, but I would not screw with leather.. simply because I have no experience and if I get it wrong...... ohboy.

Dealerships use these indy leather folks all the time... you can't believe how much work they give them. I would call your dealer or a body shop and ask them who they recommend, and just use them.

Are you sure they are scratches? Leather get crinckled with age and dirt forms black lines in them that appear to be cracks and scratches. I stretch the leather with one hand, and use a hard sponge with a tiny bit of water mixed with some Dawn. Rub hard. Then quickly dry with a towel, then finish up with a leather conditioner. Amazing actually.

Peace

Any light scratch in the leather will become unnoticeable in time, due to normal wear. I wouldn't bother. Just keep the leather protected and moisturized all the time and don't worry.

Hi, Thanks for the reply. Unfortunately there is a little more damage than a light scratch. It seems perhaps I didn't express it properly. Plus I am a bit OCD. :-). Cheers.

Color plus has been used by a lot of people with great results. I just ordered some form my classic grey interior on the 993.

Thanks Everyone for the Responses. In light of all the suggestions I'm inclined to check in with a dealership or auto body for a professional look at the seat. As on fellow mentioned you mess it up you'll see it forever. Cheers.

Just got my 09 CS back from the dealer today where the regular visiting "interior" guy repaired a 1" x 1/2" scuff on the drivers bolster. Beige leather. Absolutely unnoticeable now. Glad I didn't do the DIY.
