Default Well ... This sucks

Clutching in to crawl for traffic and heard a *pop*, clutch went to floor, and that was all she wrote.

Car is running fine, but no clutch. Pool of brake fluid under the car as it sits.

Must be something with the clutch slave, but what? I just replaced it!

I'm getting too old for this ...

Yep, but he's gotta go the long way round since he's coming from California Ave.

IDOT is pretty good about sticking around til the truck gets to you.

This is the 3rd time I've broken down on I55 during rush hour, but I didn't think the third would be in a 911!

Found the problem: Leaking clutch line union.

The rubber line to the slave cylinder popped out of its joint with the hard plastic line that runs to the front of the car.

Apparently there was a TSB that was issued regarding this problem. The solution: replace part number 999.230.541.10 , "Threaded Joint"

Cost: $120

If aside form the tow your repair was only $120 then I'm glad that was the extent of the damage.

Does a dealer have any obligation when something is out of warranty and there is a TSB?

I wish they published this stuff so we can take care of it before this kind of trouble.

Peace

No. A Technical Service Bulletin is a documented repair process.

TSBs use to be well documented and organized by Loren on Renntech.org. Not sure if it still is.

Kev! Crap. Sorry to hear about this. At least it wasn't the clutch or flywheel like we talked about. Did you already order the part and are you DIYing?

How did you find out about the TSB?

Hey LexVan. Where do you/would you go for indie trans and engine work around Chicago?

I think this is a symptom of a failing pressure plate. I've had random spurts of really hard clutch pedal action - more effort than even my '92 Talon with a 2400 lb pressure plate.

What really grinds my gears (no pun intended), is that there are supposed to be only 20k miles on this clutch. I have no idea how the previous owner drove the car, but it's pretty frustrating.

I've heard that these Sachs clutches seem to fail pretty regularly. My fathers Z3M needs a new clutch at 29,000 miles.

LOL.....There is no control of the clutch system by the on-board computer. And that is a really good thing.
