Question PDK shift **** disassembly - how to?

Hi,

does anyone know how to disassemble the pdk shift know? I am not talking about taking it off but disassembly into its individual pieces.

I have done this with a manual shift know before and once you unscrewed two screws all the pieces could be taken apart. On the PDK piece I wasn't able to find any screws...

Thanks.

Regards,

CF

Actually, I would like to know how to take off the PDK shifter. Could you post the instructions for that please.

That one is easy.

1. Put the car in D
2. Turn car off
3. Put on a rubber glove (you want some grip with one hand)
4. Look closely at the base of the lever. You'll see a seam right below the letters PDK. The area below the seam is the locking collar.
5. Grab the locking collar with your gloved hand and twist it counter clockwise.
6. With a little effort, the locking collar will twist about 20 degrees or so. That's it! the lever is now unlocked
7. Pull straight up on the lever and the entire lever will come right off.

Oh, and if you're wondering why the car should be in D when doing this, it's simply too difficult to grip the locking collar if the car is in P.

I'm pretty certain that the leather piece is glued onto the silver piece much like your leather e-brake handle is glued onto the e-brake mechanism.

I don't believe there is an easy way of separating the two unless you're willing to try and pry the two apart. It's probably possible since it's possible to take off an e-brake handle with enough force, but it sure doesn't look easy.

I have never been strong enough to turn the collar. I taped it and then taped the jaws of an adjustable wrench and was able to turn it without any damage. Good luck.

Default Update - it can be done (see pic inside)

I managed to take apart the shifter without destroying it.

So now I can create a true custom piece!
