I went in the way-back machine and found a post I did in 2014 attempting a high quality before-and-after capture, but all-in-all I'm not happy with it since I felt the results didn't reflect what you hear in real life so I didn't initially bother to go back and find it. It also elicited zero response at the time on this forum so maybe it is underwhelming. But here it is for the record in case it helps: https://rennlist.com/forums/997-foru...7-2-s-pdk.html. You really do need at least earbuds to hear the difference meaningfully, and even then I don't find it adequate. We used a reasonably high quality mike, you can tell that in the voice aspects of the capture (we were doing various scenarios and calling them on each segment), but then again, I think that mike was largely designed for voice capture on stage and may not be the best for the broader frequencies needed for a post like this to reflect reality.

Thanks for posting this! Since you've had some time with this setup what are your longer term thoughts on the sound from the Fabspeed? I kinda like this idea more than doing an exhaust - it's easily reversible and (I think) the sound doesn't change much unless you're *really* on the gas.

Storm, I just lost a long response to your post. In short:
>Good video with earbuds
>Yes, I can tell what it sounds like -- it comes through.
>Intake: Even after the exhaust mods, without the EVO intake, 4500+ RPM was lame. With EVO intake, above 4500 RPM it sounds like hell is inhaling something now.
My exhaust: Replaced mufflers with glasspack resonators. 80-90% volume of bypass pipes, much higher quality.
Verdict for Andy: Catback and good intake. You will like. Make every effort you can to get around and hear different setups.

Philster, actually you didn't lose your post. It showed up on the Oct 2014 thread that I linked to a few posts back. Nicely described!
I couldn't help but grin when I heard how nice and angry your car sounds in the video! That does seem a lot nicer than the straight pipes I've heard. You are a bit braver than me though.

LOL... I had so many damn browser windows open. ![Big Grin](https://rennlist.com/forums/images/smilies/biggrin.gif)
I have a Borla system waiting for Spring. The glasspack test was just that.
It's intoxicating, but too loud under load at low RPM... and after 30 mins, it's outright tiresome. But every quick spin makes me want to keep it. Every long ride and I can't take it anymore.
Oh well. When Spring is here, the Borla goes on. I did hear it in person.

OP, you don't show anywhere whether you have a 997.1 or a 997.2, the intake answer can vary somewhat depending on that. I agree they are only using one mike for the audio inside the car, I hear no evidence otherwise. The intake really can make that kind of difference in sound. Here is a GoPro sound recording taken inside of my car at an autocross with just the GoPro mike. The sounds seems similar in nature to the video above. I'm running a Fabspeed intake (no affiliation). Note that the owner of the car in the video states that the sound the driver is commenting about is coming largely from the intake.
The nice intake howl of my intake is quite notable at high RPMs, had no noticeable effect on torque (this reduction in back pressure effect is more of an exhaust phenomena), but doesn't seem to make a huge difference in the sound outside of the car as i passes by... from that perspective the exhaust sounds overwhelm it. It introduces no drone since the sound effect is largely at higher RPMs (both accelerating and decelerating).

I have a 2006 C2S with Fister cans and the helmholtz resonator blocked off.
The guy in the vid uses a K&N FIPK intake which I used to have on my S2000 and at least with that car it had a much louder intake "bark". I know in the S2K community the K&N intake was preferred because it was a short-ram and the filter was a bit more out in the open thus allowing the driver to hear more of the intake than other designs like a cold-air.
Again - I'm not interested in a claimed +30hp (Fabspeed), I'm just chasing after a bit more sound in the cabin to enhance the driving experience. I'm leaning towards picking up the K&N intake since the price is reasonable and it's a relatively easy install. Can't think of a reason why I wouldn't want it.
Also - thanks for clarifying that intakes typically do not alter the torque curve. I was thinking of when you change to 200cell cats.

I just installed the Fabspeed carbon fiber cold air intake on my car. Standard non-PSE exhaust (for now) (Thanks for the help StormRune)
I noticed no obvious change in performance except for maybe a slight increase in throttle response. The sound though was very noticeable. The best way to describe it in text would be it went from wwwhhhhaaaaaaaaaaaaa to WWWHHHAAAAAAAAAAAAA (lol, say it out loud. I know you want to)
The sound is very noticeable above 4k RPM. StormRune's video above is a good example of what my car sounds like. Perhaps a bit more tame give the standard exhaust, but the engine sound is very similar.
I think changing out the air intake is a really worthwhile mod. Not only does it make a noticeable improvement to the sound of the car, but is also an easy DIY job. In that way, I think it's the perfect entry/gateway mod.

Thanks Cysco, DutchNy!
The sound of the 997.1 in the Smoking Tire video and all the comments on this thread have got me really interested in the Fabspeed intake. I've had intakes on other cars before and have enjoyed the added sound at high throttle openings.
However, my two main concerns about an intake in the 997.2 are
(1) hot air from the engine compartment, despite the shield (much hotter than a front-engined car with an intake up in a front corner) - this car is a summer DD and Ottawa summers can be quite warm;
(2) Ottawa has a lot of heavy rain in the summer, so I have concern about water ingestion due to the very short and direct run into the motor, without anywhere for the water to settle out.
John, Stormrune, I'd love to hear your comments on these concerns as well!
Thanks all

As far a water goes, that was my biggest concern. I even emailed fabspeed before buying and their reply was that they've never once in their history making air intakes had anyone report any issue with water.
FWIW, I just got done washing my car for the first time with the intake and here's a photo of the engine bay. When I opened the engine lid some water dropped down onto the center pipe (I dried that up) the cones were bone dry. I was even pretty liberal with the water just wanting to see how wet it'd get with a lot of forced water. This elevated all my concerns.
Here's a photo I just snapped post-car wash.

I think Cysco has it all pretty well covered. I haven't had any water problems either. If the filters do ever end up a little wet the air coming across them will dry them off pretty quickly when the engine is running in any case. After I've washed mine and let them drip dry until they are just damp, I take the car out for a sporting run to dry them the rest of the way off anyway and the car seems completely unfazed.
Note that the OEM filters also are circular and the front edge of the filter media also sits directly below the ducts and get the same exposure to any water/mist coming through the ducts.
