Thanks for the great write up and thoroughness of the process and sourcing of parts
- I have 34K miles on my 09’ 997.2 and pads/rotors are coming up.

Folks,
This is a short write-up about how to replace front rotors and pads on the Carrera 997.1 S or 4S. There are already a couple of very good videos done by Van on how to replace the pads and rotors on a 996. However, I never found a comprehensive and complete write-up on how to replace the brakes on a 997.1 S.

Could you share the complete list of part numbers for this work?
For my old 997, I ordered the wrong clips at first and spent a lot of elbow-grease time without realising I had the wrong part.
My car was an early 997, so I'm guessing it used 996 parts. The current 997 is also an early car, so I'm not sure yet..
Thanks

Very nice writeup!
One thing that I want to port over from moto racing is the deep clean on the brake and suspension parts. Debris and grime on forks, brakes, wheels impact performance. We do a lot of exterior detailing on our cars but tend to forget the parts behind the wheel. With the rotors and calipers off, that's a perfect opportunity to get a soft toothbrush and do some cleaning. Period cleaning helps reduce cake-on build up.

I've been told that using brake pads other than the OEM Porsche pads can cause squealing noise - This squealing noise happened on a 996 I had owned where previous owner had used a cheaper brand pad.
I replaced the pads with the OEM Porsche pads and noise went away.

Brake dust on OEM Textars is outrageous. Within 50 miles my front wheels would be black.
I just switched to Hawk Ceramics and its a life changer. 99% reduction in brake dust, zero performance impact, no squealing. I feel potentially slightly less cold bite when im coming out of my street first thing in the morning, but no change in hot bite or friction.

I second the recommended Hawk Ceramics. No squealing and very little brake dust. Same stopping power though.

We have a C4 Base MT Cab (2006) with the 403 Option Carrera S (Lobster) 19 inch wheel. The brake calipers are red with white lettering and pulling the center retaining pin allow you to pull the pads out the top side of the caliper and the rotors are cross drilled.
So is this an S brake caliper ? . Are all Carrera 997 rotors cross drilled ?
Pelican only shows 2 part #s for pads for each manufacturer, one being for ceramic brakes. Does this mean the S and non-S caliper design uses the same pads ?

Can you send a picture. Base C4s didnt come with big red brakes so yours were likely painted or replaced by the prior owner.
They are two different sizes so best to triple check.

I can pull the pads out w/o removing the calipers.

The caliper should have the part number embossed. I would start from that. The calipers/rotors could have been replaced with aftermarket or the S set as well. Again, the part number would be the most authoritative source.
