I'm a newbie in this world and a little confused at the moment. I have a copy of my window sticker and the original option sticker on the inside of my manual. My car was not "optioned" with Ruby Red Metallic. Now it is my understanding that RRM was the "launch colour" back in "08. Does this mean that RRM went from being a "stock" colour in '08 to a PTS colour in '12? Clarification anyone?

interesting you bring that up. I read that in 08 (as you said) it was a launch color, but then in 09-12 it became a PTS color.. I’m not sure where I read that but it seems we both did.. I had atlas gray on my other car and that was like a 4500 option, but I see that way more often, so I don’t know. Does the cost they give this option make it automatically more rare because most won’t spring for it? No idea… Ruby red is rare but it’s not ultra rare by any stretch.. I was at our local Porsche dealer couple months ago and the GM
who has been there since 90’s said he’s seen that color 3 times… cayenne’s and one cayman but never a 911, that being mine… he seemed interested too as he took a hard round the car look.. I don’t know. It’s just a color. I was searching for white and gave up after I found this one. Color is just an opinion (everyone) 😷 and it’s only worth more to someone that is willing. I will say tho, fully buffed out, it’s stunning…

The spec sheet on my '08 lists $690 as the cost of the RRM paint. If it was a more expensive option it looks like that started with the 997.2

I feel the 911s shape can wear almost any color well. I personally do not like black cars, you lose the lines and the up keep is difficult.

Pick a color....it would work. Cannot say that about many cars.

I think already brought up earlier on this thread is Rennbow, the PCA color database, it's excellent and rates colors in terms of rarity. Looking at the red color family there are 54 reds, who knew? RRM is 2 paint cans, there scale is 1-5 paint cans. Five being the rarest. My 2008 911 is Guards Red, one paint can. I had a 1987 911 in Carmine Red, which I thought was rare as my research on air-cooled 911's showed it was only available for a few years, not almost every year like Guards Red. Yet, they are the same in terms of rarity.
