Default Read codes, hours etc

Hi all, is there a cheap easy tool/software available to the 997:I somewhere?
Not after closing codes just seeing them and knowing status on the car. Have searched but not found anything i like so far. Thx.

Durametric but it's not cheap. You can also get some info from a cheapo OBD II reader.

I have one of the cheap OBDII readers ($15-20) with Bluetooth. I use the Torque app on my Android phone. You can see the garden variety codes that a smog check would be interested in. I have also cleared the P01xx misfire codes that I get randomly every few months for no apparent reason...

Durametric enthusiast version is what you want. It can read Porsche specific codes, clear faults, see DME overrev's, and I believe even clear an airbag light if you disconnect your battery for some reason. The enthusiast version will only work on three different VIN's and does not allow for any coding changes (disable TPMS, turn off rear spoiler when switching to a fixed wing, etc.). Used ones are listed in the marketplace from time to time with one or two more VIN's still left out of the three available to the cable.

The pro version of Durametric is much more expensive, adds coding and unlimited VIN's. Otherwise the other features are the same.

If you are willing to go generic instead and give up DME overrev's and airbag resets, then go with a cheap bluetooth OBD-II adapater and Torque Pro app for your phone. Reads and resets generic OBDII codes but will miss some errors that do not light the dashboard OBDII error light. Things like non critical faults like a fog light out or door lock fault will not light the dash warning light, does not always show up with generic readers, but will show up in Durametric.

Ok, Thanks for all the input. Does anyone know if you get engine hours with a cheapo or is that durantrtic enthusiast?

No the generic readers will only give you OBDII related codes.

My opinion, if you plan to al or most maintenance on your 997 yourself, than the cheap OBD readers are just a waste of money. Durametric is relatively cheap if you can avoid the dealer. I would consider straight the PRO version so you can code. Or maybe there is somebody in your area willing to share the tool...

Durametric only gives you hours in DME but not in POSIP (airbag). DME hours can be manipulated by OBD odometer adjustment tools while airbag hours are much harder to change. So if you want to make a real assessment of your car based on operating hours you need a PIWIS.

OK, I had a PIWI of the hours when I bought the car. Theen a Durametric should do it. Im just after having control of the hours vs km for oil filter and service.
