PCM 3.0 Music thru USB Drive
Is there specific formatting required when using a USB drive as the PCM music source? I copied from my phone and it causes the PCM to reboot when it tries to find the music.
This is via Universal Audio Interface.
Thanks!

Additionally, in another part of the manual it describes the type of audio file encoding the PCM will decode to play - so MP3 with some specifications is there and some others I think, but the file encoding may also be an issue.

Thanks guys!
I should have RTFM but I never thought about it when I had access to the manual, so I asked my favorite resource. Seems pretty straight forward. Perhaps the USBs I tried are not 2.0.

Had some good luck. Thinking about the information this group provided, I removed all of the non-music files (like album artwork) from the album directories. My phone used this info but PCM 3.0 is simply text-based so does not. It worked!

I had issues, got em worked out.... I wrote up a bunch of stuff that may help others here:
https://rennlist.com/forums/997-foru...-and-pcm3.html
and here:

I found it ignored album art etc. but it to be fair, the system is a bit flaky. Also, as you near its file limits, it can slow way down when you select a next track out of order, takes forever to load its directory when you first fire it up, and will lose its memory of where you were etc.
Peace

Not sure if this has been covered or not but I noticed that MP3 files that I purchased through AmazonMP3 will not play when I loaded them onto my USB Drive.
Has anyone had the same problem and if so do you know what the fix was?
I've got around 700 songs that I didn't purchase from Amazon and they all work fine.

I suspect converting the file is somehow stripping some sort of DRM from the file, or maybe it's changing something else about the file, but honestly, I have no idea. All I know is that I paid for the file, and expect it to work regardless of what music player I use.
My kids told me about the clip converter site. It comes in handy if you want to save youtube videos to your hard drive.

Just plug into usb and aux port, enjoy streaming from your phone

Also, using this device, control is through your phone rather than through the PCM. I prefer control through the PCM.

The PCM only plays certain compression and bitrate/sampling options, so the MP3 may be a variety the PCM doesn't support - you should be able to re-code the MP3s through an MP3 encoder set to a valid PCM configuration.

I ran into this problem today -
Loaded up some of my tunes on a thumb drive - took them out to the car, verified that they were working, came back to the computer and proceeded to load up a bunch more music. Brought it back out to the car and it wouldn't read the thumb drive anymore.
Here's how I solved the problem:
Went thru the entire contents of the thumb drive - and found one .pdf file. Deleted this .pdf file, verified all other files were music files, and wallah - now it works fine.
Kind of surprised that one .pdf file would keep the PCM from reading the drive, but it did - and that was the problem.
