Question PASM springs with base dampers???

Hi everybody,

is there any reason why the PASM springs (-10 mm) should not be used with the (non-adjustable) struts of base Carrera?

Thanks.

Regards,

CF

Only reason would be identical to using lower aftermarket springs with different spring rates on PASM, SPASM or base dampers. The dampers are not designed for the spring length/rate and could prematurely wear. There may also be fitment issues with the hats though I do not know if that is the case.

Thanks for your reply.

PASM springs are only 10mm shorter than base springs so compared to Eibach or H&R the increased wear and tear should be less.

You may be onto something with the top hat remark.

why do you say pasm springs are -10mm
p30 sport pkg springs are -10mm
you are in germany, so you have row springs that are equal to H&R, Eibach

IIRMC, the PASM springs on my 2009 C2S are softer than the base model's springs. The PASM system used the shocks to control stiffness where the base model has, in my opinion, a better balanced system of firmer springs and matched shocks. The PASM system, is nomal mode, is a softer ride both because of softer springs and the programming to the shocks.

Have to correct you on that one Bruce;
PASM spring rate is stiffer than base car spring rate,
PASM fronts are 33N/mm, base is 27N/mm
PASM rears are 56N/mm base is 43N/mm
This is according to the 997.2 introduction technical manual.
And we all know that PASM ride height is 10mm less than base car because the PASM springs are shorter.
Now, it has been said that in the 997, the ROW cars received the same springs as the US cars.

Thanx for the correction. I should have looked first as I have that doc. I blame my aging memory. My wife just knows me as wrong all the time.

I just drove my friend's 2009 base without PASM and the ride was firmer than my 2009 S PASM in normal mode. I incorrectly blamed the springs. I liked his ride better as I thought it was more "sports car" like..... Reminded me of my 2000 Boxster S.

I have another friend with a Toureg and he thinks the handling is sloshy and plows. He just installed a stiffer rear swaybar that removed the plowing... Now we are talking about springs vs shocks... This is more complex than it appears as I just made an incorrect assumption on my Porsche.

Peace
