Default Slate Gray paint question

Were there any variations to Slate Gray between the 997.1 & 997.2? If not, what is the correct paint code (if only one exists)?

dont know that code, but when the paint store mixes the paint they will usually ask you to choose many different variations. If you look at a paint that offers vin id, you may still have variations. If you are trying to match paint on the car, I recommend starting with a paint that offers vin id

If you're going to paint, do not accept any paint mixed by paint code. Painters will swear by their codes, but they will not be an exact match. Use only genuine Porsche paint, and apply only over the correct Porsche primer- several different primers are used according to the top coat color- as the underlying primer also affects the final appearance.

Right. Anything else, when you notice it just doesn't look quite right in certain light, don't look at me.

Gentleman,
I'm just trying to find out what the paint code (as referenced on the car) is for a project. If your 997 is 'Slate Gray' please let me know that code.

On a 993, the factory applied a decal in the trunk which gave the name & code for the car's paint.

I have a slate gray 2006c2s and some documents show 23f for the code but they are not official.
This link seems to confirm it.

seems like over the 30 years Ive been fooling with porsches its been a urban legend that porsche uses galsurit paint. Some deny it, some swear to it. Porsche dealers dont know. Maybe they have changed brands at some point, maybe not. I dont know if you could ever get a absolute answer from porsche(VW).
I have always used glasurit on my cars, and its the most expensive product anybody sells, except some custom paints like HouseOfKolors. But I have friends in the body business that say they like Dupont better, they know more than me. All the cars porsche are making today use water base paint for enviromental reasons. That will prove to anybody that a color on a 15 car cannot possibly match that same color on a 05 car because its not even the same material. So no matter how you try to read the code # of a color, its probibly not even the same material on the origional you are matching to. True, use a good paint, basf glasurit, basf rm, ppg, dupont , sikkens, they are all hi dollar paints. Is one better than the other? Probibly never tell the difference. The difference you can tell is the quality of the job; the prep and the application. Worry about the job you are getting most of all. A good painter is going to use good paint. hes not going to waste his time doing hack work.

I'm not re-painting my car or any car for that matter. I'm working on a project for a client and need to finish it in the correct 997.1-era 'Slate Gray'.

Thanks for the possible '23F' code as well as the paint supply link.

It's kinda funny, I don't like grey cars as a rule. I also don't like natural brown leather normally either, but that slate/NBL combo with PCCB is stunning!

Well done
