Default Anyone drive a 991 C2S or GTS

I have a 07 C2S that I'm trying to decide if i should upgrade or not. I'm curious if people here have driven a 991 C2S or GTS. I'd like to know about the power, the 991 C2S feel substantially faster than the 997? I assume the GTS would with the extra hp, but i'd to hear form people that have actually driven the 991. Thanks. I think the 997 looks nearly as good as the newer 991 but i'm afraid maintenance costs may start coming on my older 997.

I have a 997.1 and have spent a decent amount of time in a 991 C2, C2S and GT3 both on road and on the track. They are different as much as they are similar. The 991 in all variations is substantially more compliant and balanced. You don't feel the rear weight bias as much as you do in the 997, but you also feel a bit more disconnected in the 991.

It really comes down to the type of driver you are - your experience level, how aggressively you drive and how you intend to use the car. If you are looking for the most intimate feel, the closest connection between car and driver, stick with the 997. That said the difference is small, like the difference between a great wine and a really great wine, more preference than anything. In all of the 991's, I felt more confident, like I could push the 991 harder than the 997 without as much need to worry about managing the rear weight. That said, for me as a bit of a purist I prefer the more granular connected and imperfect feel of the 997. The 991 however spurs a higher confidence level and is likely a more comfortable car to a greater range of drivers. Both are phenomenal and to have to choose between the two is a good problem to have.

In response to your question about power, yes the power difference is quite noticeable, especially as you go up the range to GTS and GT3. At the C2S level the difference is noticeable, but not huge and would be secondary in my decision making equation to the greater difference of how the two drive and what you might prefer.

To be transparent, my experience is limited, I haven't owned both so take this with a grain of salt. I've spent a week with a 991 C2 on normal roads (loaner), a C2S manual and 997 GT3 at the track at Leipzig Germany and both C2S auto and GT3 auto at Porsche's new Atlanta facility.

Hope this helps.

In order to better answer your question I need to know if you are asking about the manual or PDK.

I had a 991C2S PDK for 2 years and also 997.2C2S in PDK. Even at the same time. I even drag raced them at PBIR privately to see what the difference was. I have also road coursed them both. The 991 is obviously faster in a straight line, it walks a 997. On the track the 991 is considerably faster. When you are sitting in them the 997.2 feels smaller, more comfortable, and sporty. The PDK is a little smoother in the 991 but not so much of a difference it should stop you from getting a 997. I want you to get a 997.

I was just in the situation where my classic was requiring constant maintenance and needed a top end. I sold that and wanted what would be my ideal drivers car. I could of got another 991S in manual but opted for a 997.2GTS I'm keeping this car for a VERY VERY VERY long time. The sport exhaust is intoxicating on a 991S and not as much so on my GTS, but I'll get it there by bypassing the valve and center muffler.

Just some random thoughts while winding down my night. You can ask me more detailed questions if you like. I could dig up some photos as well.

To be honest i'm not sure about the PDK yet. I've never driven one. I have a manual now on my 997. My PSE on the 997 sounds fantastic, from what i've heard the 991 PSE sounds even better.

I haven't driven a 991 GTS but I have a base, C2S, C4, and C4S, power is noticeable. The 991 feels better in terms of handling for me. It's easier to drive fast, so it gives you the confidence to push it. Unlike most on this 997 subforum, I prefer the 991 looks over the 997. I prefer the size of the 997, overall aesthetic, the 991 wins both inside and out. IMO. There are very few 911 owners who move from the 997 to the 991 regrets their decisions.

It is human nature to justify and cheer for your choice.

People don't like change and every generation has a hard time moving into a new era.

I saw this first hand at every generation Jeep Wrangler since the CJ. And every generation is always a remarkable upgrade over the previous generation. Sometimes they make cosmetic mistakes (996 and YJ front ends to name just those) but the overall package is always better.

People eventually move-on to the new generation and suddenly, it becomes the new standard.

I have a 997.2 GTS and drove a 991.2 GTS in Germany for a weekend. It was amazing. The power difference is very noticeable. It is larger and more comfortable. I track my car extensively and the 991.2 would destroy it. They both are amazing cars and you can't go wrong. BTW I spent 10 hours each day driving the autobahn and country roads and finished off by running a turbo s on the nurburgring. Bucket list trip.. BTW it only cost 380 euro to rent the GTS for the weekend. If you are ever in Germany go to Avis and rent one. Well worth it!

Very subjective. Just look at all the different opinions you got out of 9 posts here so far. I'll add a 10th opinion for what it's worth. I agree with those who describe the 991 as having a more plush and luxurious feel to it. Some like that. I don't. I think it takes away from the traditional feel of the 911. Sure it's been refined over the years but the leap from the 997 to the 991 was huge. Blindfold me to the seat of a 991 then un-blind me. I wouldn't know if I was in a 991 or a Panamera. And I also agree with those who think the car feels and looks larger even though the difference between the two is fairly small going by the numbers alone. But yes, it does look and feel quiet a bit bigger.

As for driving it, I've driven the 991.S and the 991.GTS. Power wise I couldn't tell much if any difference between my 997 GTS and the 991.S but more so between the two GTS's. Not anywhere near dramatic but noticeable. For handling, goes right along with the more plush/luxurious feel referenced to earlier. Translates well to how the 991 drives too compared to the 997. To me the 991 as potent as it is feels less like a 911 than any I've driven in the past. Very comfortable, very stable and compliant but less of a sports car feel.

Lastly as I've repeated a number of times, I don't care for the looks of the 991. The way they redesigned the rear portion of the car is especially off putting to me. Add the appearance of a much larger car and the 20" wheels and you end up with an odd looking package that just doesn't come together for me like the 997 does. Almost looks to me like the 997 was designed the old fashioned way by a talented, skilled, compassionate, human and the 991 by some kind of computerized program. Just lacks emotion in the design to my eyes.

You didn't say if you were looking for a 991.1 or 991.2. The 991.2 C2S is nuts! Stock, it's an 11 second car. With a tune and simple upgrades it's absurdly fast.
