Yes first post, sucks but hey, registered a while ago and have been watching the forum.

Cut off by a Chinese tourist on his phone, rental car, passport and chinese drivers license is all he had.

Yes, mostly cosmetic...

BodyShop estimate was $14k, Porsche dealer was $28k... Covered by insurance so repairs are being done by Porsche.

Hate to bring it up but see if you can't get some diminished value added to the check. Unfortunately even though it looks mostly cosmetic the fact that it shows it's had almost $30K worth of work will make the car worth less money. Significantly less in some cases. I would contact your insurance company to see if they can help

I would just try to get it totaled. They really can't tell till its taken apart what the true damage is, pictures don't show the damage to suspension bits and pieces. Thats a hard hit, things underneath must be bent too.

Same thing happened to my car, previous owner accident. I got a fair deal. But it was difficult to sell. That history shadowed a fantastic car. While repair correctly, always haunted. Discuss diminished value with your insurance. Take lots of photo's. Get it repaired right, take your time. You don't have a location, but I assume New York state. Does your hood have all the options on a sticker inside. Try and get it replaced. Who knows whats going to be important in ten years.
Stomp that hood flat, put a clock mechanism in there and hang it in the garage.
Any story you can tell, is a good story.

Man, hate to see that. Especially as a first post. As a few above have mentioned, make a diminished value claim once the car is near completion or completed. Might be a dragged out ordeal with the insurance, but just keep up the fight. I've been through it before so I hope you have an easier time that I experienced.

Good luck man!

I don't see how they can do an true estimate without taking it apart. You can fix cosmetic stuff easily enough. Its the other items to worry about. if you keep it, be ready to keep it for a long time.

Bummer - huge bummer.

The last couple of claims we have made with insurance automatically kicked out a diminished value check. They weren't big claims and we didn't even think about it, but the amount they paid was pretty big compared to the claim - I was surprised. At any rate, I think that is all up to the silicon gods in the clouds these days - it's an automatic part of the process. But on a car like that, ouch - $30K of repairs - surprised they didn't total it.

I hope all goes well - that has to be heart breaking.

for 30K of repairs, they must value it at above 60K, that seems to be the point where an insurance company wants it totaled. If its more than 50 percent of its value.
