Default New to 997

Sold my 77 930 and bought a 2007 C2S. Never thought I'd have a water cooled Porsche, working A/C and cruise control but I love it. I have a kick *** 914-6 for when I need that end of the spectrum. I look forward to being a member here.

My main mission now is to figure out how to wire in an iPod and Bluetooth. I also need to figure out the best way to hold an iPhone so I can see it.

I'm surprised you sold the 930, but congratulations and welcome. Can you post a pic of your new car? And a few of your 930? The 997 is probably more refined and comfortable, but I'd be interested to hear why you decided to sell the 930 for the 997 since the 930 is more of a collectible. This is coming from, by the way, a guy who sold an 87 on 911 for a 996.

The 930 acceleration was great but I didn't like the lag. Non-linear power. Plus, it just didn't fit my need for a "trip" car, not a collector car. The realized appreciation was nice, too. So, I decided to jump ahead 30 years after owning 5-6 911's. The 997S is great - after one day of ownership.

I'll hazard a guess - the 930 got too valuable to drive, he didn't want to own a collectible, and wanted something he could drive hard and not worry about. That's why I sold my '94 turbo 3.6 and bought the GTS.

Got it. My '87 wasn't a turbo, but my rationale for "upgrading" to a 996 at the time was the same. Glad you like the 997. If that's your 930 in your avatar, it's beautiful too. Love the ruf wheels. I was smitten when I got my 996 and smitten when i got my 997. Can't wait to see what it looks like.

Wow. Not that your GTS isn't phenomenal, but the 3.6 must have been some car!

It was. I loved it, it was my first Porsche and I thought I'd own it forever. But then the market went nuts and I couldn't drive it without constantly worrying about something happening to ruin the value. So, last year I sold it for three times what I paid! Found the GTS with in a month and never looked back.

I do miss the boost on occasion, it was like a drug, scary and exhilarating at the same time, but the GTS is just so damn good that I am very comfortable with my decision.

This thread is why I love these cars and people. Yes... driving is more important! Hey, collect what you can, but you gotta have something you love to drive and that you don't cringe when doing it!

Congrats! You should consider a Mobridge system. They aren't cheap, but they provide Bluetooth telephone connectivity and streaming music while maintaining a stock appearance. I am very happy with mine.

I occasionally use a vent clip to mount my iPhone in a visible location, but only on long road trips. I typically don't like to see it while I'm driving.

Congrats on the new ride.

I mount my phone with a ProClip holder at the center vents. I have the charging cradle for those long trips. The wire is routed out of sight. I'm very happy with it. No affiliation, just highly recommend looking into this option.

Congrats on the 997 and welcome. For connectivity, Tranzit Blue has been a simple, unobtrusive and cost effective option for my 997 and my son has one on his Boxster as well. It's under $150 and an easy installation. Music info appears on the factory center console screen and a control button can be placed to your liking to take calls, pause the music, and advance to the next tune.

I also like my phone at eye level, and have a magnetic mount installed by the A Pillar to keep the phone within reach. I bought similar mounts for our other cars and it makes taking your music or news seamless even when changing cars.

Congrats.

I just installed the Dension unit from Bumperplugs. It is $450 and two hours of your time, but the result is a OEM quality bluetooth for streaming music and answering calls. The unit automatically connects to the stereo, displays title, track and artist. Phone book is synced. Very OEM. No buttons to hit or sync to start when I get in the car, just works.

As far as a phone holder I am looking as well. The angle of the vents make it difficult and the built in ones seem obtrusive. I did order a vent mount with a magnet, hopefully I can rig something up.

+1. I am so glad I didn't spend the ridiculous money they wanted for a Dension or Mobridge or Tooki, especially after reading about all the glitches people were having with them. Glad I didn't go for the OEM in-console wired interface either.

As for seeing the phone, I just lay it on the passenger seat, with or without being plugged into the charging cord which I normally keep coiled up inside the center console cubby plugged into a $5 USB-lighter adapter. There's enough gap around the lid that the cord can pass through without getting pinched.

Welcome aboard. I sold my 964 C2 in the spring and bought a 997.1 with 26k miles and a new engine installed 2k miles before taking ownership. I too like the drivability and comfort of the 997. I don't get frequent compliments or offers to buy it like I did with the 964 but I don't care.

+1 on the Transit Blu. I put one in over the summer and it works very well.
