Default Incentive to combine AOS with new plugs?

My understanding is that dealers or Porsche-specialist indy shops will drop the engine to do a spark plug change. If that is correct, I'm wondering what the incremental work would be to replace the AOS with the engine dropped.

I've researched the AOS topic in general on this site, and I've read the DIYs here and on pelican. But I don't have a good enough understanding of engine-drop details and the implications on the AOS install point. Maybe still a bunch of engine part removal involved for the AOS, with or without engine drop. Is there an opportunity here to knock off the AOS job w/ (relatively) minimal $$s?

I can ask my indy shop, but wondering if anyone here might have some insights or knowledge on the question first.

Thanks and cheers!

I can't believe that anyone would drop the engine to just change spark plugs.

they do not remove / drop the engine to get to the plugs. However some do take the headers of the passenger side to get to them easier. I just had a 40k miles Service done and they did not remove my engine nor the headers. I did have them replace my AOS since I had some other things done at the same time that where overlapping. The cost to do the AOS was $639 at the Dealer.

639 including parts for an AOS job? That's incredibly cheap....

I experienced AOS failure earlier this month - total with parts/labor etc came out to $1,100. This is from a world renowned and also very reasonable independent tech.

That is cheap. A new AOS runs close to $300, if memory serves. I'd like to upgrade to a Motorsports AOS sometime, and those things run $800+ for a new unit. Seems like it'd be easier to get to the AOS by dropping the transmission ...

You don't need to drop the engine to do your plugs, however. If anything, the exhaust can be removed to make things easier, but it doesn't seem like a necessity if you have the right tools for the job.

I've done plugs in my 2009 C2S twice now using only floor jacks and did not remove headers. I did remove the mufflers both times and the the rear bumper (very fast and easy to do) on the last plug change. I do recommend removing the rear bumper.

It is time consuming to do plugs on these cars but that is the appeal of DIY... you save a ton of money.

Peace

This is what I did as well except left bumper on. Remember to double up on floor jacks, you'll be under the car, not a time to ignore safety..
Also this is a good time to bleed the clutch and brakes while it's in the air.
